RE: Poulan 25 from FL trimmer

I have to throw in my two cents worth about the POULAN 25cc FEATHERLITE engine. I have 105, ten to fifteen minute, flights on this engine. It uses a stock carb and 16x8 prop. Using it on a BUSA 120...

RE: Weedeater Featherlite Conversion

I have a Weedeater Featherlite 25cc on a Balsa USA Stingray 120. It has OVER 80, 10 minute or more, flights on this engine. Enough power to fly the stingray and do all the usual maneuvers. It has the...

RE: 25 cc weedeater on trainer???

If you are going to buy a "WEEDEATER" brand feather lite, go with the 25cc. It is the same weight as the 18cc featherlite but has much more "needed" power. I have a 25cc WEEDEATER with CH ignition on...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

Jim,
I now have 25 flights on my Stingray/Weedeater 25cc plane. The engine is running better each time out. A 12 oz. tank prooved to be more than enough for 10 minute flights. It has used just a...

RE: reply to teufelhund

July already and I am just now getting around to flying the yellow Stingray mentioned in the previous postings. I flew it today for the first time. Three flights. The WEEDEATER 25cc with CH ignition...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

I flew my Stingray 120 for the first time today. The 25cc WEEDEATER engine had more than enough power. I was able to do loops cuban eights etc. The engine was running on new gas and a 16x8 wood prop...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

Jim,
What is the final finished weight of this unit?
Mine came out at 11 lbs and slightly lite on the nose with a 25cc weedeater.

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

Jim,
Here's a few pics of the tail setup. I have two more servos to put in and then ballance. Soon as the weather breaks I'll try her out.

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

Jim,
Looking GOOD! The canopy and pilot makes the plane look more realistic.
I would epoxy tri stock for support under the stabilizer and against the fuse for added strength. I didn't notice this...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

I have been flying the 40 and 120 Stingrays for three years. The largest engine I would use on the 40 is a 60 2 stroke (I had one). The 40 is a sweet flying plane with a 52 4 stroke. The OS 46FX is a...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

Jim,
Pin hinges sound OK although I have no experience with them. I would still put more than 5 on each aileron..you're working with a 39 inch aileron..we don't want any "Flutter" that will cause a...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

Jim,
The canopy was a stock SIG Somethin extra (40 size). I cut the length to what I needed. My pilot was a baseball player "Bobblehead" minus the bobble (no springs).

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

Back on my post #32: I should have mentioned that the removable canopy deck also hides the wing hold down bolts. If you use a 1.2 or bigger glo engine, I strongly advise strut supports on the...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

The canopy is a SIG Somethn Extra canopy. As you can see, the part of the deck that the canopy is connected to is a separate piece NOT attached to the wing. The canopy deck attaches by a dowel...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

Here's a pic of my 120. The STINGRAY airplanes lend themselves well to "Kit bashing". I have a 40 size that resembles a PT19, and one like a P51. I have also bumped up the 40 size fuse by 25% and...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

Jim,
I put 5 hinges on each aileron at first, but that wasn't enough, they were breaking. Switched to RADIO SOUTH 1/4 scale hinges...9 on each aileron. One under each servo horn and one 2 inches to...

RE: reply to teufelhund

Not done building yet. Wouldn't be any differant than a side mount. Since this plane will have two battery packs a 1100 and a 1300, the batteries will be used to establish ballance. I'll give an...

RE: reply to teufelhund

Look into the WEEDEATER 25cc. SEARS has them in our locale at $69.00
If you go with electronic ignition, you can get the weight down to around 36 oz.

RE: Weedeater 25

Piper,
That is the stock carb. There is a noticable difference between the 18cc, 21cc and the 25cc engines.
The 25 has a beefed up crankcase, differant carb and carb block. The compression seems...

RE: Balsa USA Stingray 120 ?

I've been flying the "Balsa USA Stingray 120" for two years. It started with a Magnum 1.08 engine, this engine hauled it around OK but the plane just needed more power. I switched to a Super Tiger...

RE: Weedeater 25

I converted a 25WE to CH ignition and installed my own velocity stack and done away with the muffler and put on a home made expansion chamber. I'm getting 8000rpm with a 14x6 and 6600 with a 16x8....
