RE: RCGF Engines

I'm not going to get 165 mph out of my 1/7 P-47D either, but I'm not willing to settle for the "1/7th rule 62 mph either - looks silly at that speed. My F6F Hellcat is up around 120, looks much...

Whichever one is the one used in Wind Tunnel tests. If you google "froude number wind tunnel" you'll have reading material for lunchtime :)

RE: RCGF Engines

A lot of it depends on which "camp" you're in for "scale speed". Some folks just divide the speed of the "real thing" by the scale factor - fine if you want a warbird that flies like a Slow Stick

RE: RCGF Engines

Shane - that may be part of my problem. I'm flying the WM 1/7 scale P-47 (IIRC you were on that thread), so I'm dragging around another 5" of wing compared to your H9 P-47, plus (2) retract servos,...

RE: RCGF Engines

I'm a fellow Scot , I hear you!

It may get better as I get more fuel through her. Right now, the best speed I've found with the APC 16x10. My buddy has the identical plane/motor with the 16x8,...

RE: RCGF Engines

_sigh_, I see where you're going....

YES, the RCGF 26 is less expensive! (and mine didn't come with stand-off's, moot point). But I'd have been a bit happier with it if it was equal to a 120...

RE: RCGF Engines

It would all depend on your definition of "pulls really well". In 3D, it may "pull" just fine. On a warbird, I can tell you that the RCGF 26cc compared to the Evo 26cc is night and day different -...

RE: RCGF Engines

Considering pretty much everything ModelTech offers comes in substantially heavier than advertised, I'd have a 45cc waiting after the maiden :)

RE: RCGF Engines

I haven't switched from the "lawnboy" type oil yet, but as far as speed (not thrust) the 16x10 APC is the fastest prop I've run on my 26cc (1/7 P-47). The 18x6 was both a dog and a fuel hog - the...

RE: RCGF Engines

I'd take a 16x8 and 16x10 to the field, see which one you like. A lot of it will depend on flying style - are you looking for 3D or Sport performance? I have my RCGF 26 in a 1/7 scale P-47D, the...

RE: RCGF Engines

I'll fiddle with it. Fortunately, there's another buddy at the field with the same plane and engine - so we can double up on the comparative testing.

RE: RCGF Engines

Karol, I tried the 18x6W (Henry's recommendation), 16x8 and 16x10 - the 16x10 was by far the fastest of the lot. I'll probably A/B between the 16x10 and 16x8 next trip out and reverify - plus...

RE: RCGF Engines

Karol, I'm currently running an APC 16x10 on the 26cc

Chad - the YS120 is running less prop (loves the 16x8 APC), the aircraft (F6F) is about a pound lighter - and the speed difference is night...

RE: RCGF Engines

I'm waiting to get a few more tanks through the P-47 (and a few more landings!), then I'll experiment with better props. It was advertised as a "1.20/4 stroke" aircraft, and I can tell you that...

I hear you there Andy. I have the Nitro (CMP) F6F Hellcat, it's an "OK" bird - but certainly not going to win any prizes for Scale.

RE: RCGF Engines

Dunno - and Henry's site isn't responding. I guess I could live with a pair of Saito 72's if I had to (have one already - but it's promised to a Twist 40)

RE: RCGF Engines

Sam, power as in speed or thrust? Speed - I've found the APC 16x10 to be by far the fastest prop on my WM 1/7 P-47 (haven't switched to wood yet)

Speaking of warbirds, could I shoe horn a pair...

RE: RCGF Engines

Henry originally told me 18x8 also - couldn't get to run anywhere near 7200, my P-47 was dog slow (and guzzled fuel) with that prop. I'm running a 16x10 now, my buddy Gary runs a 16x8 - I'm quite a...

RE: RCGF Engines

At least 14 oz. My P-47's not completely broken in, but I get about 14 minutes or so on the 26cc/16x10. IIRC, I have either a 14 or 16 oz tank.
