RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I personally have all stock hardware and have not had a single problem. A couple of friends replaced everything with rocket city style hardware and they feel better about it, but I think it is a...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

Looks like your hover skills are coming along. The engine sounds like it is purring along without a hiccup!

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

One problem on the 3W singles is an air leak between the black reed valve cover and the engine. You need to take off the cover and rough it up and then using red silicone seal it up and put it back...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

You could get kicked off some of the threads talking like that! I found the same thing to be true, but nobody cares to believe it. They all say the needles aren't adjusted or the prop is not...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

This will be controversial, but I think the 3w 85xi is vibrates less and is more reliable. My buddy has a DA 85 on his SD and for about 45 flights and is starting to have airframe trouble from the...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

My buddy who has a DA 85 has the same problem. Hi fix was to make sure not to tip the plane forward. I know that there is a starting procedure for the ZDZ with choke on and all of that. I am sure...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

If you were using the stock spinner, the bolt will shear off for sure. Ask me how I know. I put an esprit models fiberglass spinner on it and painted it with chrome paint.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

That looks SWEET!! Do you have a bracket that holds the muffler to the engine box? It seems as if it might have a problem with loosening up due to the leverage from the long header.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I have a 3w 85 xi with a wraparound pitts muffler. I mounted it directly to the firewall with no problems. I did buy the mounting plate for the 3W but other than that the only other modifications I...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

it is a brand new engine. I would stay with the less expensive prop until you figure what flies well at your altitude, then if you want to try a mejslik go ahead. Just my thoughts

Dave those are great pictures! The one hovering in front of the Castle Rock would make a great postcard.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

I don't fly precision so I can't give an objective answer. Rolls appear axial and almost no coupling in knife edge, but like I said i am not a precision guru, so probably not the best person to ask

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

The only issue is the Firewall. Make sure you use the wood to completely enclose the motor box. I also replaced the aluminum with some stronger american aluminum angle. Make sure you use the bolts...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

It doesn't seem right, but the difference is huge! 33% is my favorite size now. I must admit I've never flown 40% but I've flown everything from 35% and down.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

We flew the SD's together yesterday with the 3w and DA 85. The only notable difference was that the DA was louder (both have pitts style mufflers). If you don't have a SD 33% yak...

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread

There are three DA 85's at my field and I have a 3w 85. So far the DA turns a 26A Vess at 6500 RPM. The 3w is turning the same prop at ..........6500 RPM. The 3w does however vibrate significantly...
