Yes, the motor box is long... I had to shorten mine a bunch! Still working on my red one, as well. My son still has a green one NIB.

When I talked with him, he said that the back plate was not drilled... no hole in the center. I take it that yours actually was center drilled and you just drilled the peripheral holes for the prop...
