If the engine doesn't start with both needles out 2 1/2 turns, something else is wrong with it.

Ignition unit not working?
Ignition sensor not working?
Spark plug or ignition cap shorted?
Pump...

The carb should be able to pull fuel from two feet below the plane

You may as well use it.

If it quits, put a real RCEXL on the engine.

My experience with ignitions is that unless it was missfiring on 4.8v, you are not going to see a noticable increase in rpm with 6v
