You can't take any sounds as evidence of anything unfortunately. The airplane at that point is over 1/2 a mile away.

FWIW.. only the left trim tab was functional on Galloping Ghost. The right one had been fixed in the neutral position to further reduce drag.

There is no way he could have handled the G onset rate he faced. The airplane went from 1G to 11+ almost instantly. The total G isn't the real problem. Competition aerobatic pilots have pulled 11+ on...

The trim tab failing can absolutely cause what happened. There are 2 tabs on the elevator of a P-51, the pitch trim tab, and a control boost tab. The trim tab coming off could have damaged the boost...
