I use a 180 torqMaster starter from hobbico, connicted to a lawn mower battery and it starts my 31 Ryobi it will even start a U.S. 41 cc without any problem.

ryan was the brand-name before Ryobi bought them out, if it's a short shaft is the 28 CC Long shaft 31 CC. Parts are interchangeable between the Ryan and Ryobi.

Check on gas engines on RCU. I have ryobi 28, ryobi 31, Homelite 25, McCullough 32, for sale for $65 plus shipping and insurance. Very good use engines.
