RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

I know that this is an old thread, but I've got an unbuilt ARF and am rounding up supplies to start the build.

Can anyone recommend some decent pilot figures for use with the Zollner cockpit...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Tomas,

Please send me the info on the crew, as well ([email protected]). I just received my cockpit kit today (from VQ) and it looks great. If you have a source for a good looking crew that...

dadP47-

I don't pretend to know much about electrics but the motors you've chosen appear to be well up to the task as do those nifty props (I especially like the adjustable pitch feature). You...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

What motors/controllers/batteries/props are you using? I would like to swing 4-blade 14-16" props. Would this be possible with your setup?

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Walt-

This might sound a little crazy at first but I can assure you that it works very well.

Nearly all of my "twin" experience has been with a grossly overpowered Tigercat that my buddy...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Walt,

Don't be afraid to spray those spinners with your detail gun! A small part like that is about the easiest you could ever hope to do.

The color black is usually the least expensive,...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

You can run the YS .91-1.10s on up to 55% with no problem at all; they like the nitro even more than the bigger motors do. They tend to get a big edgy on 60% and up but they'll run all day long on...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Walt-

Hmmmmmmmmmm.................I may back off and use the 1.10s instead of the 1.40s or 1.60s because I don't want a whole bunch of motor hanging out of the cowl (I'd like to hide as much of...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Man oh man does that 4-blade prop look cool!

The 1.60 is roughly 1/2 inch longer than your 1.10 so it should be possible to squeeze it in there (plus it's only 6 ounces heavier). Yours looks...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Oops! 1.10s? I have a pair of YS 1.60s on the way. Will they be too big for this model? I want to swing scale diameter (16") 4-bladed props..........

Sam: was that your transmitter low voltage alarm going off in the background, or just a flight timer?

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

A company called "Vortac" (I think) used to make some bomb release mechanisms that looked very much like your drawing and they might work for this application. I don't think they're in production...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Is that total diameter (untrimmed) or is just the outside diameter of the finished engine itself? The reason I ask is that I usually leave the whole thing intact (no trimming) and only cut out the...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Hmmmmm..........mine's only got one "lady", too! Squadron book shows them on both sides (as did the one that Charlie Chambers built). Guess I'll need to get another decal sheet, even if I have to...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Samparfitt,

Any plans to split the outboard main gear doors as is proper with all B and later model P-61s?

Anyone building the "Jap Batty" version will be fine because it's an A model. ...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Yes, the 1.10s (actually, everything but the new Dingos) still pressurize the tank.

I know that everyone worries about bursting a tank but we've used just about every brand imaginable (with the...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

Which YS? (.91 or 1.10?)

I hadn't even considered either of those.............

I was thinking about the 1.40s or even the new 1.60s. My plan is to swing scale diameter 15 or 16-inch...

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION

I plan to use a pair of YS engines with header tanks in the nacelles, fuel lines running through the wings, and one or two main tanks in the center pod. My buddy ran into a similar problem with his...
