Try disconecting the wires ( one will do ) from the tail motor and connect a 9v battery across the terminals, if it spins it can't be your motor.

They should be set up close to the paddles, until you gain experience, and then they can be moved inwards, to change the sensitivity. ;);)

You've done everything you can do, the only thing I can say is NEVER allow your TX batteries to go low, don't believe the led readout, it's far from accurate.
And also NEVER connect...

I know what it is like to break tail blades, I've done it been there - can't afford the proverbial tee shirt.

If you have a broken tail blade why don't you use the centre bit - just round it off...
