Reuben,

At 35-40 lbs, you are on the upper end of the 3W-42 ability to fly the plane. A 3W-50 would fly the plane very nicely.

Hi,

A 3W-42 would have plenty of power for scale type flight for a 33% Tri pacer if the all up wt is not too heavy. Prop choice is important. I would start with a 20 x 8.

RE: 3W 50I

How much does the plane weigh? A 6 pitch would be very slow flight and I would expect that the 50 would only turn it in the 4500-5000 range.

Typically, 3w-50 are happy with 22 x 8 or 22 x 10 or...

RE: a hProp drilled wrong OOPS!!!

Hi,

Which is cheaper? The prop or a trip to the hospital?

Take the prop to the band saw and make it unusable.

You know the saying "penny wise and pound foolish.

When in doubt,...

RE: 3w 120 TOC

Hi,

28 x 10 seems to be the right prop. It will turn a 30 x 10 but it really lugs the engine (mid 5000 range)

RPMS for a 28 x 10 should be in the 6000-6500 range.

the 120 is rated at...

Hi,

Sounds like you need to rebuild the carb. Rebuild kits are cheap.

RE: 3W 24 hall sensor wrong rotation.

Pat (TOM), correct me if I am wrong.

With the older pickups which are coils, when the ignition fails, replace it with a DA ignition which uses the same coil/sensor.

To go to Xcell...

RE: 3W 24 hall sensor wrong rotation.

If the sensor is green, it is for reverse rotation.

If the sensor is black, it is for tractor rotation.

I think it is a slick solution for reversing rotation and I like it better than the...

RE: leaving the base gasket off a 3w

Thanks for all the info.

I use a 20:1 oil mix on these overworked engines. I will tinker with increased gasket thickness.

leaving the base gasket off a 3w

What impact will leaving the base gasket off a 3w have? Replacing it with a thin coat of gasket sealer.

Slightly increased compression and slightly shorter duration for intake/exhaust?

RE: Fuel line inside the tank

A couple of 5/16 nuts will slide over the tygon line and slide down on the clunk barb over the tubing for additional weight on the clunk.

I add them in every tank.

RE: storing gasser long term

Hi,

The way I store all my research fleet of 35 3W gas powered airplanes ranging from 24 cc to 212 cc, is just to hang them on the wall after the last flight. The following year, I pull them...

RE: Avenger 60 synthetic oil

Hi,

Got another idea.

Mount the engine on a mount, overload it with a larger prop to boost engine temperatures to around 200-250. Run it full bore for 6 solid hours and then tear it down...

RE: 3W 28i Information

T.O.M

I am still trying to wear out the 3w-24s. I thought that I would wear them out before moving up to the 3W-28. Guess I will have to wait longer..

I would start out with a 24 x 10 and play from there if the flight performance was not exactly what I wanted.

RE: 3W 75i Question

Hi,

The 3W-75 is significantly more powerful than the G-62. Run 91 octane and 40-50:1 oil and have a lot of fun with it.

RE: Is this engine too heavy for a telemaster?

Hi,

The Sr. Telemaster flies nice at 20 lbs so engine wt is no problem as long as it balances. Best balance for a Sr. Telemaster is 5.25 inches behind the leading edge. It tracks well at that...
