RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

I find that plumbing the tank for a uniflow setup works just fine for a tank position that is too high. However, you do have to use hemostats to keep the fuel from driping into the carb till it is...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

A bit nitpicky I guess. But this is yet another arguement, not the one we have been discussing. At any rate the high G manuver would not make a huge differance. A negative manuver with a normal...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

Dar,
On most tanks the muffler vent is at the top of the tank at or above the fuel level, when it is upriht there is nothing impeading the muffler pressure and the tank pressure is the same as...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

Dar,

This is clearly wrong! For your example the tank is 2" thick so when upright the pressure to the carb is 1" of fuel plus muffler pressure.
When it is inverted it will be the muffler...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

Dar,
If you do the simple arithmetic you can see that the engine will only run with tha same fuel head inverted when the fuel level is at the same level as the carb spraybar. Doesn't mater how...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

Yes, but until I actually sketched it and did the simple math on several tank positions, I did not know that when the fuel level was at the same level as the carb spraybar, then it would run the same...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

Slide rules don't do addition and subtraction, which is all the calculation required. I am suprised no one has followed my math, or at least commented on it.

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

Dar,
The source of pressure doesn't matter, it can be atmospheric, muffler, crankcase, or a monkey blowing through a straw. The result is the same. If you take my sketch and go through it with...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

Consider the following sketch.

When upright the pressure to the carb is the muffler pressure plus X minus Y. For example if the muffler pressure is 10 Inch's and X is 4!QUOT! and Y is 3!QUOT!...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

That is not what I meant. What I was trying to say was that if the fuel level is above the carb, then the engine will run (getting confused here) ~~~~ leaner when upside down than upright, once the...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

Dar,
I believe you are an engineer, right? I just went through some static calculations which may prove we are both wrong. Basically it proves that with our standard RC set up you can never...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

This is proven wrong every time a model makes a dive. When correctly adjusted the model will run slightly rich in either a power dive or while idling. Yet it will be reliable and the differance...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

That would only be true with the uniflow tank when the vent line is always at the same level as the clunk. With a normal configuration the vent line is unrestricted when up right so the tank...

RE: Why Are Nearly All Kits and ARFs Incorrectly Designed?

Unless you are using a uniflow tank that is flat wrong! The tank center line should be below the carb, how much depends on the muffler pressure and carb suction.
