Just forget about the tank being empty or full....

Just forget about the tank being empty or full. It doesn't matter. You balance these planes with an empty tank. This holds true for every model I've ever built, and the Northstar is no exception. The...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Hey Wes,
I did not glue the cabine struts in place. They slide in very nicely and after the upper wing is installed they are captive. There is no way they are ever coming loose or falling out.

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Kd,
I don't kill my engine remotely. After taxing back to the pits, I walk up to the airplane and flip the switch mounted on the airplane to the off position. Works just fine. I believe that spark...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

KD,
Best I can do here is tell you what I did.
I used the idle ajust screw to set the base idle speed after the engine was broke in and warmed up. I use radio throttle trim to set a fast idle...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

I know it seems like wooden threads would be weak, and if you cut them into balsa they probably will be. But cut into hardwood and then hardened with thin CA, they are stronger than the nylon bolts...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

Pay close attention when building the wing center sections. There are a couple different size ribs to deal with and if they don't get into the correct place it will make you unhappy.[:o]
I have the...

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

That's one I used, only I think I used a solid wire for better control on take off.

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Sopwith Pup build

I run a tailwheel attached to the rudder, and it works very well. It is as light as I could make it.

Keep your tail as light as you can. Push your servos well forward, in front of the cockpit...

RE: Sig Smith Miniplane build

Make them 0-0. If they aren't perfect they will fight one another in the air.

RE: Sig Smith Miniplane build

Heat the joint. When you touch the solder to it, it should melt into the joint immeadiately. If not, pull the solder away and apply more heat. Be liberal with the flux. This is what they should look...

RE: It's Building Season, Whats on your bench?

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the BUSA kits. Last year I built two. The northstar makes a great waterplane if you keep it light weight. I also built one of their 1/4 scale sopwith pups...
