From the pictures it looks as if the motor is pointed upward rather than level with the boat bottom. You won't get much thrust if the propeller is throwing water upward rather than directly level...

Hobby Lobby sells graupner flex drives. You might also try Loyalhanna Dockyard. They also carry graupner as well as many European brands. Very nice stuff.
