Charles,

The 1100mAh packs to be released by A123Racing are in the production process. We expect to have them released end of spring / early summer. There is also work being done on a New...

RE: New 1100 mAh A123 available everywhere and no word here!

Charles,

Lava rock inserted a quote from me that I made on November 12th. I have not been posting recently, primarily because our A123Users are very good at supporting each other ( you play a...

RE: increase conductivity and reduce R

Hello Icarus,

The tabs that are welded on the cells are solid nickel straps. They can handle all the power the cells can deliver, well over 70A continuous. Many people think these tans are...

RE: tp 1010

Hello Kingtight

As Charles has said the newer revision of the 1010 will charge A123 Cells to the proper voltage. Our cells can be charged safely to 4.2V / cell but there is certainly loss in...

RE: New 1100 mAh A123 available everywhere and no word here!

Hello All,

Sorry I was not able to Pipe in earlier, but I don’t spend a great deal of time on the Forums over the weekends. The VPX packs from Black and Decker do indeed have our newest 18650...

RE: set up for 1/8 buggy

Hey Guys,

Here is the data for the Losi Eight Conversion. Specs are on the top of the graph.

Just to Sum Up:

Run Time 17 minutes,
Average Amps 15.4
Average Watts 99.7 (Peak at...

RE: set up for 1/8 buggy

Hey Auto,

I will be using a data logger to gather Voltage, Amperage, mAh, and run time for this buggy tonight. I will post it tomorrow so you can see the data. There are several reasons why the...

RE: Having major problems with batteries

Hey Huntman,

What batteries are you running? Batteries only supply the power that is required by the Motor and the Speed controller. As long as the input voltage is within spec there should be...

RE: set up for 1/8 buggy

Hey,

We did a Losi Eight electric conversion for the I-Hobby show we recently attended. It was running a 6S1P (19.8V 2300mAh) pack, with a Steve Neu 1515/1Y motor powered by a CC Mamba Max...

RE: So where can one buy high capacity A123 packs?

Hey Guys,

This is a different battery manufacturer. This particular cell is similar in physical appearance, and it is Phosphate based, however it is our patented Nanophosphate chemistry that...

RE: A123Racing Charger Questions

Hello JettPilot,

10A is a lot of current, that is one of the primary advantages to our cells technology. There is no advantage to charging with a lower amp rating, our packs are spec’d to...

RE: A123Racing Charger Questions

Hey CLofland,

There is no problem charging off of a car battery. I would not recommend the cigarette lighter though as they sometimes have a 5A fuse built into them. If you search online you...

RE: A123Racing Charger Questions

Hey CLofland,

The power supply you have specified will work with two of the Sonic Chargers, no problem.

Also note that a cheap car battery charger from Walmart, or anywhere else for that...

RE: Melting the heatshrink and softening the solder on my 3s1p pack

Hey,

That's a nice rig!!! I think that a 3S2P would certainly be a good upgrade. There is plenty of space on the chassis, and you will see better performance and runtime.

RE: Melting the heatshrink and softening the solder on my 3s1p pack

Hello Snell,

If you are heating the cells enough to cause things to start to melt then you are definitely using them at or beyond their 30C rating. Installing a 3S2P pack would most certainly...

RE: lathe a123 cells to save weight

Red has the right info here. Our chemistry is what makes the cell heavier; the aluminum canister contributes very little to the higher energy density of the cell. I would look in another direction to...

RE: Balancing for A123 cells

Hello Paul,

This is a tough question to answer.

There certainly is an advantage to balancing on every charge, this is why the Sonic Charger always balances. The advantages are:

Optimal...

RE: First Post Asking For Info

RE: How do A123s Fail?

Hello Tex,

If you were to have a cell fall to 0.0V it would not create an open circuit. For example if you have a 9.9V pack and a cell somehow falls to 0.0 volts the pack will measure 6.6V, and...

A great deal of heat is generated, in many cases this extreme heat...
