The Saito 82 is a perfect match power-weight wise. For the first time I could do a proper Top-Hat with the vertical half roll.

I have to comment again on the engineering of the Aeromaster kit. I think it is brilliant. I have only had two out of control crashes in my model career, and the last one happened after a Lomslovac ...

Thirty years is even longer than my 27. I had to learn to fly all over again. The reason I went for both wings swept was to reduce wing loading for slower flight due to the larger wing area. She...

The back of the wing notch lines up with the rear wire. You should not have to worry about this because the construction of the cabane lines the wing up anyway, due to the rubber bands position being...

This is what the mount should look like. Don't forget the thin X wires front and back. Some people leave them out, but they help brace the top wing flexing the cabane....

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

Mine weigh between 6 and 7 pounds. You may find lighter wheels, batteries and servos help. You really should try to get it under 10 lbs if you don't want to compromise performance. Lighter covering...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

"when I do a fast roll the bottom wing tip almost touches the top wing. That should be all this plane needs to be a steady flyer."

Something is wrong there. My rubber banded wings, without...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

One friend I have, copied the plan and built the plane using information from the kit, but not the kit itself.

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

I found my No3, with the balance as on plan, 1/8 in front of the rear strut, was able to be rolled onto it's back, and fly without any forward elevator required. It was however, very sensitive to...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

Well you certainly are set now. Two kits as well. They are had to find. I have one in reserve in case I ever lose my No.3 which nearly happened.
Just in case you need motivation, here is a video...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

Wonderful to see such enthusiasm for the old stuff. It seems we older folk are the only ones to appreciate the models of yesteryear. (I even fly the stuff from the thirties, so what does that tell...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

There is nothing wrong with the landing gear position, and I never had a nose over. Just use decent size wheels. I had a crash, the result of a battery disconnect cause by an incompatible (too deep)...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

Absolutely. There is no need for extra ailerons; that is the beauty of the design. If you keep the aileron gap to a minimum, you will have more roll response than you will need - quite capable of...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

I might jump in here with a related comment. Not so long ago, I flew someone else’s Aeromaster-too, and was disappointed with how poorly it flew. It was sluggish and inaccurate in rolls, which was...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

The year 1971, the field was Cloverdale (Vancouver BC Canada) at the RCFCBC club. The strengths of this design lie in it's ruggedness. Unfortunately many decide to bolt on wings and landing gear, and...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

This remarkable plane was my first Aeromaster. After a mid-air, I flew it back to the field with one wing and and half a propeller. The engine kept running, and any other plane would have been shaken...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

I suggest you build deliberately nose heavy, keeping everything like servos well forward. Later on, if (with the wings on) you can adjust with the battery. I fine-tuned mine with a small ounce weight...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

Looks like an 'Aeromaster Too' (both wings swept back), except for the bolted on wings. Seven pounds is the normal weight for this plane. Eight would be heavy. Twelve??? Good luck with flying. Check...

RE: Is dope & fabric covering dead?

1) Dope dries quickly and such shrinking can be done within an hour of doping. Use an iron set to medium heat , and gently touch the fabric briefly to test if you have the right amount of heat. If...

RE: Lou Andrews aeromaster bipe ..Any info ??

Good to read about your Aeromaster story. Very similar to mine in some ways. I also left the hobby in the seventies after I bought a new Citabria 7ECA.

I have just come back this afternoon, from...

RE: Is dope & fabric covering dead?

I think it is more important to know what paint finish is involved than the type of fabric. Patches can be put on with dope, or a water based varnish like "Crystal Clear" if the dope will react with...

Have you flown it yet? It should fly inverted with just a touch of down trim.
