RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

The 160 spins a one inch larger prop at the same rpm as the 120ax, I've run both. However, the ax uses almost the same ampunt of fuel spinning the smaller prop. Keep the carb clean by running a Dubro...

haisanjafri,

Your welcome. These are fantastic engines. As long as they are not run lean with no castor they will last a long time.

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

Use a fuel filter!

Remove the low speed needle and flush the carb with fuel thru the high speed needle nipple. Reinstall low speed needle so it is flush with the carb body and screw the needle...

Try richening the low needle about an 1/8 turn.

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

The engine needs to be retuned, richer in cold weather because the air is denser. Start it like normal, prime dripping wet, set high idle. attach glow driver and back flip. Should fire right up.

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

I recommend a Bisson OS BGX or ST 4500 pitts muffler with one outlet completely blanked off and a Hobbico exhaust diverter installed on the remaining outlet. The engine will run well, sound good and...

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

rc11,

Why are you using a pump? Loading the engine may help the rattle but I only had the condition with the idle screw too lean.

After I purchased my first 160fx back in 2000 several...

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

Calvin,

I would add 4oz Sig or Klotz castor to a gallon. When I ran both of my engines on the test stand on Byron 5% nitro, 20% oil they ran great from the get go. Performed the breakin per the...

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

Calvin,

Where is the fuel tank mounted? Ditch the pump, set the low end so the idle screw is even with the inner recessed chamfer (not flush with the outer edge of the carb body) in the carb...

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

I forgot to mention, the bolly three blade, and jtec muffler made a very quiet combination. If a muffler equipped 40 size trainer was flying I couldn't hear my plane at all.

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

They will bolt right on. With two Hobbico extentions on the st4500 muffler and 5% nitro I would get 9200 rpm on the APC18X6W with a quieter more mellow sound. It also seemed to allow the engine to...

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

jm,

You were probably only getting 6000-7000 rpm with that prop, way too low. The stock Bisson Muffler is too small for larger props, you need to run a Bisson BGX or ST4500.

Get a APC...

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

 Send it in to hobby services.

Did you tune the engine with a tach? What rpm was it spinning? What brand prop were you running? What muffler were you using? Why are you using a pump? My...

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

Gmoneypit,

That's the first time I've seen a engine mounted with the exhaust pointing up.

What is the length of your setup from the piston to the back of the muffler?

I think the one...

I don't run a Perry pump, it's not needed on this plane.

Have fun with it.

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

The APC 19X8 turns at 6900 rpm peaked on 5% nitro. It is a bit overpropped for the engine but it will turn it. The best overall props are 18X6 or 18x8 APC.

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

A Mejzlik 20X8 is too much prop but it will turn a Mejzlik 20X6 or a APC 19X8.

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

You may have better luck running the larger props using lower nitro and 20% oil. I'm running a APC 19X8 with 5% nitro, no overheating problems. My cowl is baffled and the outlet is 3X the size of the...

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

LUDS96,

You can fill your tank 1/4 full, set the needle to peak or 100 down, then fill the tank and you will not go lean. Or you can use a Cline regulator, set the engine to peak and fly it...

RE: O.S 1.60FX Owners. Post your tach readings

I have run the engine on 5 to 15% with the OS 8 plug. I richen the low end to get no knocking in the air and have perfect extended idle (5 minute) and quick spool up. I ended up using 10% nitro 18%...

Flyboy Shady,

If you richen the low end a little the midrange knock goes away.
