RE: I have a Question...

Nope. We call it therapy. Just make sure you can get your boat back if something 'bad' happens - like dead batteries or weeds on the keel. Our pond has access all the way around (we're lucky) but...

RE: Whole slew of newbie questions

My dad bought one of these as his first boat. That radio is a standard one - range shouldn't be an issue unless you're in a horrid/busy radio environment. Just remember that it's a small boat and...

RE: Ballasting a Sterling America for R/C

Well, it's sort of a 'fat' boat anyway. Build and waterproof the hull, chuck most of the gear into the right places, then start adding weight. You might be surprised hoe much it'll take. Remember...

RE: Fairwind 900

We've got everything from unpainted to automotive finishes - the hull works just fine as is.

I ain't the electronics guy, though. Sorry.

RE: What is your next boat?

Dunno!!! I've got too many as it is, but I'm trying to replace my current Dumas Star 45 with a competetive hull - but that's not a 'new' boat, strictly speaking. Maybe a Laser, but I can borrow my...

RE: New at sailboats-Kyosho tradewind 36-600

Believe it or not, it's a COX Tradewind - the model-engine people!!! And for what it's worth, it's faster than a Kyosho Fairwind - by a mile. The only mods really needed are to ensure the sheets...

RE: Balsa USA Stick Forty Plus

Um, no - don't add to the surfaces themselves. The plans/instructions call out control throws. Use their maximum, OK? Then tape the gaps, too. They're pretty sloppy as built. THEN get maximize...

RE: Balsa USA Stick Forty Plus

And while I'm typing, build it with the maximum surface throws.....the instructions don't provide adequate control at 'trainer' throws (i.e., minimum)... After you fly it for a while, build in...

RE: Balsa USA Stick Forty Plus

Noticed one flight that the plane was 'sloppy' in the air...brought it in and the tail surfaces were being held to the plane by nothing but the control rods and air pressure!!!!! :) Little 5-minute...

RE: Balsa USA Stick Forty Plus

World's best trainer!!! *grin* Build it with a tailwheel - the nosegear is a little troublesome. Glass the wing center section, no matrter what the instructions say!!! Period!! No dissenting...

RE: SALTWATER SAILING?

The Seawind's a 'diver' - under power it's wet. Waterproof the hatch, bag the electronics and maybe try to make the sheet leads (fairleads) smaller to lessen the water intake... Other than that,...

RE: RC Laser

Either the Fairwind or Soling are more weed-free than the Laser, and have less draft to boot. I know all about eelgrass...late in the season, it'll get barnacles on it, too - y'know what that feels...

RE: Any "micro" sailboats out there?

I have an Ace and will be R/Cing it this year. BUT a current is an issue - any radio glitches and your boat is gone. Remember that smaller boats sail slower. Check out the Footy from New Zealand. ...

RE: RC Laser

The more you bend your mast by tightening the outhaul, the further aft the center of pressure is - thereby generating more weather helm. Um - move the outhaul clip out on the boom, but leave the...

RE: RC Laser

Yeah, the price has put me off, too, but Bill's right - a race-ready anything is relatively expensive, though you can space out the expenditures. My dad bought his for $275 from a hobby shop - a guy...

RE: R/Cing the HMS Bounty
