RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Here is a picture of myself with the Mustang. After going through this thread and learning what everyone else has done, I have come out with a model that is well built, and flys extremely well. I...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I have found that the covering is a challenge to get the wrinkles out initially, and to keep them out as the plane is flown. The most effective has been to use an iron to try and get the covering to...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Top Flite's top end engine recommendation is an OS 120 4 stroke. That is why I went with a Saito 125, however, I would say it created it's own set of problems. I had to replace 3 servos to metal...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I had the same problem with the muffler loosening until one of the guys at my field told me to use teflon tape. And not just once or twice around, like 4-6 times. I then tighten the nut, and it has...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Has anyone tried a different motor mount with the Saito 100/115 or 125? I get alot of vibration with a Saito 125 and the stock motor mount.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Nice, I wish I would have bought the Keleo instead of the slimline muffler for the Saito 125.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Pictures of my Saito 125 in cowl. I actually had more cowl but due to the vibration this engine has being mounted on the end of the glass motor mount supplied, I decided to cut away the rest of the...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Saito 125 in mine, lot's of rudder if I throttle up too fast. I have learned to throttle up more slowly, let the tail come off the ground, and use rudder down the runway to keep her straight. I...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I have a Saito 125 in mine. There isn't a balance issue, but the engine does stick out of the cowl quite a bit. If I had to do it again, I would use the same engine, but a Keleo pitts muffler. The...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

So, you used a 4-Blade prop from APC, they come grey. How did you paint it? I have been using acrylic Laquer car touch up paint, but it chips. Maybe I need to prep the prop some how other than...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Has anyone been successful finding a reasonable 4 blade prop for this mustang? I have a Saito 125 turning a 16x7 right now and was considering putting a 4 blade prop on it. The only ones I could...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Probably, but it sure wouldn't sound the same. With the 4-stroke, low, high speed passes sound and look impressive. A 2-stoke .91 would really move out, but sound like a model. This is my first...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Steve flys an Excelleron 90 and I think he still has his Yak 80" size. Trainer races are fun, but the trick is trying to keep the RPM below 13,500. Most .46s will need to run rich to do it. So...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

So far my CA hinges look ok. I did vibrate out the servo screw on the new metal gear servo last flight. I now locktited it in. The vibration is coming through the pushrod from the elevator. I...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I fly with the Trabuco RC Flyers. www.trabucorcflyers.com for directions to our field. We sent one of our own your direction last year, Steve Gerhshick to Apollo field (job move). You can ask him...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I wonder if you are having the same thing happen I am. What engine are you running? I have a Saito 125 in mine and the vibration on the elevator was enought to break a standard servos gears. I...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I just flew my mustang on her maiden flight. I lost a wheel on landing and skidded off the runway to an abrubt stop. First question, are you all landing with full flaps, 1/2 flaps or less than...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Sorry, I still don't see my answer from these posts. My question is, when you get the truturn jam nut, it has a 10x32 bolt requirement on the front end for the spinner. The one supplied with the...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I am almost ready to fly mine, but ran into a problem with the jam nut with a saito 125a. The nut supplied is for an OS 91, and has a 8-32 thread for the spinner? The jam nut for the saito has a...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Ok, sold. I will put the Hobbico retracts back on the shelf and buy the Robart 608HDs.

Another question, I am putting a Saito 125 in the plane. Keleo muffler or Slimline muffler? These are...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Well talk about bashing, I was asking if anyone had tried the Hobbico retracts. I happened to have a spare pair and was interested in LEARNING if it was feasible or successful. Guess that's a bash...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

If it were just the covering, I don't think I would have minded. It was the 10-15 other problems as described. All correctable, but shows a lack of quality.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

It seems like some of us have gotten a "lemon" with this ARF and some of you have gotten a really nice ARF. The question is which will show up at the door. Mine was not as bad as some have...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I have been building my Mustang for a month now, and your right, it's like everything is just off. I told my wife "China must have had a bad day", it's the worst ARF I have purchased, but paid the...
