RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Is the Saito 45 4-stroke a bored out Saito 40 4-stroke? Are the dimensions the same? I have a few Saito engines and they are my favorites. I am building an older kit that suggests a 40 4-stroke...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I am not sure if this has been asked before, but is it better to run all syn or some castrol in Saito engines (ex Saito 100)?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

This is a followup on my Saito 100. I thought that the problem was the fuel, based on a short run with different fuel, however that was the wrong conclusion. As it turns out both bearings were bad....

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Okay here is what happened. The fuel that I was using on the Saito 100 was 15% nitro. I had some 10% nitro fuel that I was using on the OS 61FX.

1 - I fueled the 61FX with the 15% fuel and it...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I'm using an OS F plug. I haven't used the fuel in a different engine, but perhaps that is a good idea. I have a OS 61FX that I could try it on. That kind of makes sense since it seemed to run okay...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

To clarify, it idles so rough that I had to keep the RPM's up to keep it running and that was about 3500.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I checked the screw and it is below the level of the throttle arm. The valves were maybe .001" to wide. I removed the plug to check the TDC using toothpick and on the non-compression stroke I am able...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I tried again and it now runs at 8500 just as you said, however now I am back to where I started. It starts to bog down after a short time at full throttle and then I cannot get it to idle without...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Okay. I reassembled it and just had to hope that the cam gear did not move from the 6 oclock position and meshed onto the crank properly. I restarted it and it runs okay, but with a 14X10 prop it...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Unfortunately that did not work as the cam followers prevented that. Without a sure way to lock it in place, I just rotated it to 6 oclock and gently lowered it and hope for the best.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Thanks. I should have thought of that. Do you just eyeball the crank?

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Does anyone have a method of indexing the cam and crankshaft on the Saito 100 when reassembling? Photos? I can set the dot at 6 oclock on the cam, but not sure if it stays there when lowering it into...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Bob, According to a recent article in FlyRC (Aug 2010) on the Saito engines FA-72 and FA-82 he said that "you should not mount the fuel tank above the fuel inlet on the carburetor." and I went ahead...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Saito 100 still hard to start. I replaced the vent tube in the tank and checked for any kinks in the lines and also lowered the tank so that the top is pretty close to the level of the carb, yet it...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

That makes a lot of sense. I know that the lines are clear, but I think you still might be right. I put a small piece of tubing onto the vent line and it may be collapsing when installed on the tank....

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I think that it was leaking out of the carb because as I mentioned that the line has a tee fitting which goes to a fuel dot, but I fixed that by running that line directly to the carb and adding...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

Richard: That was the first thing that I checked, but I was filling it properly (the line w/ the clunk) which make me think that it was the routing of the fuel lines. I checked and double checked it,...

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !

I have a Saito 100 that is very hard to start. It appears that it is getting a vapor lock when first starting. I prime it by turning the prop while covering the exhaust. Most of the time it does not...
