RE: Great planes ultimate 160

I used 2 screws on each side, then trimmed around it with red electrical tape I found at Home Depot. Matches perfectly, and really makes it look nice. I flew that plane for 4 months and the tape...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Don't use the wingtip, use the inside corner of the wing where the aileron cut out is, and go to the tip of the horizontal stab. I use a tape measure, you can press it right into that corner and have...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

It's not what I used, I started with a 22x8 on my DA50 when I broke it in, but that was before the Vess was available. If I had to do it again, I'd just use the Vess, I'm sure some will disagree, but...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

I ran a Vess 23A on mine, and it was a great match. I tried a couple others, and nothing flew as well as the 23a.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Like I said, the DA standoffs are threaded.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

I had the stock DA standoffs, which are threaded, so 4 bolts went from the engine back into the standoffs, and 4 bolts went through the firewall into the back of the standoffs. Personally, I wouldn't...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure what size spinner I used, I threw a ruler on the stock one and happened to have a lightened TT the same size in the spares box.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Just a heads up, I used the same equipment in mine (assuming you are running the DA, I think I remember you posting that you were), and a Tru-Turn lightened spinner, and had to put the 2 2400 fromeco...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Vess makes the best props I've tried yet. I flew a 23A on my Ultiamte with a DA50, and it was awesome.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Generally, you use 2 lithiums that have Dean's, and plug them into your regulators. The regulators drop the voltage down to something usable, like 6V. From there, they out put to either your receiver...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

I flew mine with 2 2400 packs from fromeco on RX, going through a Smartfly SuperReg, and into a Smartfly PowerExpander sport. Definitely overkill, but it's not much weight, and it works well, and can...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

I set mine up with the left and right ailerons on a Y. That allowed some more mixing possibilities, specifically, a TINY bit of spoiler to take the wing rock out of harriers. Emphasis on tiny, all 4...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Come on, jetstuff, it's a trial we all must go through. Basically, this is a great plane, with no major complaints or defects. There have been 2 that have had the top wing come apart in flight, but...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

No doubt, it was more money flying it to you than I sold it for, but I had to put some time in anyway, so may as well fly out your way.

At any rate, I hated to let it go, but the guy's kids...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Yup, I got a 100cc Edge and the wife gave me the get rid of something look. The Ulti will be meeting it's new owner later today. Of course, it's not being delivered in the Baron like your DPM...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Well guys, I've loved my Ultimate, but a good friend of mine has upgraded from his 100cc Edge, and I couldn't pass it up, and the wife doesn't understand why I would need 2 giant scale gas planes. SO...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

That's not too much flying, in the summer, I fly Wed and Thursday evenings, and one day on the weekend, and generally have to fill up my 2 gallon can at the end of the week. If you don't have enough...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

OK, now I'm hoping that it isn't a problem with a particular range, mine came from Tower in late July/early August too. [X(][X(]

I think it's isolated, I've flown mine HARD, with no signs of...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

When did you get yours? I wonder if there's a common production time frame with the 2 out there that have failed.

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Sorry Jim, I didn't see your original post. Mine is built with the stock stuff, just as they say in the manual. It works fine. For servo horns, I use the heavy plastic ones that come with the Hitec...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

Exactly. Bubbagates nailed it. Mine has also been beat on, with no signs of fatigue. Today I TRIED to break it with lots of fast 3d rate snaps, knife edge spins etc, and it's still perfect. This is...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

The wing loading is pretty light with a DA, but like any Ultimate (or any bipe), they are not gliders. They drop fast when you kill the power, just the nature of having 2 wings, and aal those struts....

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

It's really got to be an isolate incident, surely Lafus isn't the only guy who has flown the Ultimate hard with a DA in the front. I know I absolutely pound on mine, and it's taken everything I've...

RE: Great planes ultimate 160

I used the stock 2.5" ones, and put half inch spacers behind them, since I didn't have any 3" handy.
