RE: RCGF Engines

Ohh, don't worry. I'm fly'n a Sea Fury that weights 14 1/2 lbs with a RCGF 20cc, MAS 16x8 turning about 7400 rpm's. Take off and fly's just fine, it's the landings that I get nervous about!

RE: RCGF Engines

I'm not an engine expert, so I'll let them give you the answer. But FYI, my 20cc rear carb was doing the same thing. So I thought my carb was bad and changed it out with a Walbro (was about 20.00...

RE: RCGF Engines

Yea, not bad for a 14 1/2 lb 60 size airplane. That little engine pulls it around just fine.

RE: RCGF Engines

My son finally put together some video of my Sea Fury with a RCGF 20cc rear carb, turning a MAS 16x8 at about 7400 rpm's. He been playing around with both the camera and his editing program. You will...

RE: RCGF Engines

Ahhh, nothing like the voice of experience. I may have to try one next time I'm concerned about weight or space.

Thanks

RE: RCGF Engines

I'm no expert, but if you posted this as a new question in the gas engine forum, you probably will get more responses. If it were mine, I probably would not use a micro servo on any gas engine. If I...

RE: RCGF Engines

Ok, just to follow up. Had the plane out yesterday. The only other thing I did was check the plug and spark plug cable, both of which were ok. Started up and ran great, got in the air, ran great.

RE: RCGF Engines

Do you have the rear or side carb?

If it's the rear carb, try putting a few drops of fuel into the carb thru the carb air inlet. I have to stand my plane on it's nose in order to do this. Once...

RE: RCGF Engines

If it wasn't for the spark plug and lead hanging out the bottom of the cowl, one would think those pictures are of a full scale plane.

Very nice plane and pictures.

Looks like you have a...

acerc,
That's a beautiful plane. Is that a WACO? Kit you built or arf?

RE: RCGF Engines

I'll double check the plug.

Yea, low battery is what I thought too, but it checks out fine. It sounds like ignition problem of some type to me also, but I have had a few carb and air leak...

RE: RCGF Engines

Hi Joe,
Had my plane out yesterday. Engine was running great for the first 3-4 minutes, and then at WOT, it started to "miss" a little bit. Backed off on the throttle some, flew for a few more...

RE: RCGF Engines

P51Tom,
Nice plane.

Do you have any pictures with the cowl attached? I was wondering how much you cut out of the cowl.

Thanks

RE: RCGF Engines

goirish,
Someone may have asked you this, but since there was "black crap" in the carb, this may have come from the fuel tank stopper. Did you use the black stopper, or did you use the brown gas...

RE: RCGF Engines

Here's a timing wheel. They are pretty easy to use. Just do a search on here and you will find lots of "how to's". Try to get it around 28 degrees BTDC.

RE: RCGF Engines

I don't know for sure, but I thought that I read on here somewhere that the shafts on these motors have been heat treated and hardened, so it might be pretty tough going to drill and tap. Just a...

RE: RCGF Engines

goirish,
That is exactly how my 20 cc ran (better at half than full throttle) until I finally cut the opening in the cowl to allow more air to get to the carb. The engine would run great on the...

RE: RCGF Engines

goirish,
Try not to get frustrated. What really helps A LOT is tuning these using a tach. You can really dial in the high end, then set the low for good transition.

You said that you had to...

RE: RCGF Engines

Per the manual, the DLE 20 is 1 1/2 on high, and 1.1 on low. You don't have to be that precise. You are just trying to get it started and then tune it from there.

Acerc,
Sorry for answering a...

Thanks for the compliment. My son has some video that he needs to edit. I'll post the link for it on You Tube when he gets it done.

RE: RCGF Engines

What type/brand of prop are you using? I'm running a MAS 16x8 because I like the looks of it on the plane, and it (or me) has a tendency to nose over on landings, so the MAS lasts a lot longer than...
