What I did on my PT-40 and all other models was to keep the bend in the torque rods the same size as on the plans but just drill the holes further down the aileron to meet up with the rod's bend.

I prefer rubberband mounted wings over bolt-on for the simple fact that I have a problem drilling straight and level into leading edges and such, so I always just go the easy method of rubberband....
