I have been using one for onroad for a little while now. It's amazing how far you will have to drop in the pinion - nearly 5 teeth with 64pitch gears.

As said before, the biggest variable here is motor and gearing.

With the same gearing, and the same fresh motor ( fresh, meaning it's not overly worn out ) the difference between 3000 and 3300's...

If you are racing, You may not be able to use a reversing ESC, or at least use a ESC with reverse disable.

Most tracks do not allow reversing ESC's. You should be marshalled, not reverse...
