RE: New Hull Lay up

Might be a good idea to layup a sample, for the longes/widest/ flatest span of perfomance orientated area. Short sentance, the bottom. Find a deflection amount your willing to accept and go with it....

RE: Radtek Powerboats 92

Wow nice build. But even at reg carbon prices of 41.00 - 47.00 per yard 2k seems high. The hybrid is a nice touch 38.50/ yard. Maybe all the clear coat is big $$$.
Hanspeter still getting 90%...

RE: air restriction

Sounds alot like the old offshore race boats. They used too get out of sight and dump the hatches to let the engines breath. Probably is warm intake air boggin you down.

RE: prop test tank

After some thought on the test tank possibilities, give this some thought. A circular tank, with a central hub. (think whirling sprinkler) Motor and drive-train on one end, counter weight on the...

RE: what went wrong

Mixing components (un-catalyzed resin) and usually shaking hardener helps also. Sometimes the part in which your applying resin on is too cold, thatl' slow cure too.
On another note, if I remember...

RE: epoxy boat

Funny, I didn't catch that at first. If thats the case, I would definatly go with a more robust laminate schedule.
Maybe hmmm.

RE: How to seal a wooden boat? (many pinholes)

If you allready have bondo, try "watering it down" with resin for a more spreadable putty. It'll cure like reg bondo, just a wee bit harder to sand.

RE: epoxy boat

With soo many types and weaves of glass available it can be mind boggling. So much of engineering a layup depends on hull design, the flatter & wider the surfaces the more bulk necceessary to...

RE: what went wrong

Cool temps can create a slow cure. If using laminating resin (no wax additive) the sticky is awaiting the next laminate. Warm it up and let it cool before trying to sand again.

RE: prop test tank

I think justaddwata meant, the test set up may be an overload situation. Static water infeed vs. dynamic. If your boat tops out at 50mph, shouldn't the tank water be doing 50mph (prior to) the prop?...

RE: Ever use stretchelong for bagging?

Seen the post, and parts are perfect. Were you able to re-use the strechelon? Or was it a one pull film. I'm trying to decide on wether to use urethane mold rubber in place of traditioal vac bag...

Ever use stretchelong for bagging?

Noticed this stuff on a supplier site. Intended for vac. bagging is designed to stretch nearly 200 percent for deep curvy parts. Also has a decent temp rating for post cure induced heat. Anyone used...

RE: 84in. cat build

Here's a few pics of the deck and hatch layed up and trimmed. I need to bevel the top edge of the hull sides, for a high strenght bond/ shear line on the coremat. The seam will recieve a 3/4 oz. mat...

RE: 84in. cat build

Thanks Hemi, i did do some work while away. It's tough when someone says "this guy can fix it , he used to build boats". A gell repair or two, and a patched toon on a deck boat later, I had a weekend...

RE: 84in. cat build

Back from vacation, finally. Thought about the build everyday! Dropped in a 3/4 oz. on top of gel in the deck and hatch molds. Will be following up with a 4oz std. lam. Chased with coremat again, and...

RE: Fiberglass or Carbon Fiber cloth

For most cases regular fiberglass properly laminated, with correctly engineered fiber orientation, will be more suitable for high impact areas. Carbon tends to explode , if you will, when it's limits...

RE: 84in. cat build

RE: 84in. cat build

After some careful dremeling and sanding, all the edges of the coremat are beveled. Leaving from 3/8 to 1/2 between panels of coremat. Wishing I had taken pics of that now, I did get a shot of the...

RE: 84in. cat build

Here's an update on the build. After laminating the 3/4 oz. mat, I dropped in a 6 oz. std. weave cloth. This will be chased by a 2mm coremat application to build panel thickness. Should be cured by...
