RE: Nitromodels Katana 50cc build thread

Sounds good! Good luck! I hope you won't have too many problems with heavy landings. For a while I had to replace the prop after every flight because of hard landings where the prop hit the ground...

RE: Nitromodels Katana 50cc build thread

Akroblade954,

You have exactly the plane that I (the starter of this thread) wanted to buy, but I got a different one instead (like many others on this thread). Your plane is the one that they...

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation

Did you consider epoxying carbon fiber rods instead of plywood?

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation

Have you found any difference to the first one yet (apart from the color and maybe the one or the other piece of hardware)?

I lost mine way back when and I'm keeping an eye on the Twist 40. It...

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation

I had the original (yellow/purple) Twist 40 and at that time (roughly 2 years ago) it was $99 on Horizon. They increased it to $119 right after that and then to $179 or so. I'm glad to see the prices...

RE: Nitromodels Katana 50cc build thread

Yes, that's the one I had. And yes, the added weight didn't help the flight characteristics at all. htskywalker is smarter than me, he moved the engine more forward. That's something that didn't even...

RE: Nitromodels Katana 50cc build thread

Can you please post a picture of your plane? There are 2 versions (one was featured in a US model plane magazine, the other one is the one that most of us got and aren't too happy with).

Mine...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48

At 6V the HG65 are about .11 seconds.

But anyway, it depends how you fly. If you do sport flying then it doesn't matter how fast they are. But if you do 3D (especially hovers) then you do feel...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48

I'm assuming that's on 4.8V? If so then they seem good to me. The HS-65 servos are a tiny bit faster but they're considerably less strong. So if you went a tiny bit longer on the servo arms, you'll...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48

One thing about torque and speed of the servo you have to consider is that a lot of servos with higher torque have lower speed and a lot of servos with high speed have low torque. They do that with...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48

- 4 cell means 14.8 volts, so the recommended battery is 14.8 volts. 11.1 volts would be a 3 cell.
- I got a 2200mah 4 cell (14.8 volts :-) ) battery and I'm getting about 8 minutes of 3D flight...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48

No idea. However, I found out that the prop is making a kinda cool noise when you do a hover, cut the throttle somewhat, let the plane go backwards, hit full throttle and watch the plane still go...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48

I calculated again. I first got the per minute / per second thing mixed up. :-) Yes, for a 14 inch prop's tips to travel at the speed of sound, it would have to spin at around 18000 rpm. Which is not...

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48

For the tips of a 14 inch prop to reach super sonic speeds, you would have to do over 700 thousand RPMs at about 120mph speed of the airplane. Also, if those prop tips would reach super sonic speed,...

RE: Nitromodels Katana 50cc build thread

I fully agree! I used the Nitro Planes Katana as my test bed (my first 50cc plane). When I crashed it after 7 flights (snapped, went out of control, lots of weirdness), I decided to get an Aeroworks...

RE: losi strike.........

Let's distinguish between "good product" and "good selling product". Just because Traxxas has the biggest sales numbers doesn't mean they have the best handling best quality and toughest products. I...

RE: Nitromodels Katana 50cc build thread

By all means, yes! I had a CRRC Pro 50CC in it and had to add a few pounds of weight in the front. If you have a heavier and stronger engine (as you seem to do with your 65CC) then definitely,...

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation

The only "cheap" plane that I found when looking for 40-46 size 3D planes was the Modeltech Magic V2.0 at http://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/123738.asp for $129. I didn't buy it and I don't know how...

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation

Okay! In the meantime, here's my Twist video. That was the maiden flight last year in April. That was my first 3D plane, so obviously I'm not doing any 3D stuff on this video (being the maiden flight...

Did you take it off again? When I try to play the youtube video, it says "the video you requested is not available". Maybe you edited it and uploaded it again? Please post the new link!

RE: Extreme Flight Extra 300-EXP 48

My Airboss 45 fit lengthwise. I don't remember if it sticks out a bit or not. It's not a problem, though. I used to use velcro only, but now I don't use velcro anymore and use zip ties instead....

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D Part II - Thread Continuation

Awesome! I loved my Twist (until the wing separated from the fuse high up and far out and I couldn't find either one :-) ). When I had it, I haven't had any 3D skills yet. Iwonder what it would be...
