RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Maidened today! Wow, this plane is a flyer. I slowly advanced the throttle and she eased straight down the runway, with just a tweak of right rudder. When the tail came up I eased into full...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I put my receiver in the stock location, but moved the batteries to an alternate location to help balance my plane (in my case, farther back).

Not weird at all, Corsair Jock. Light is much easier on those retracts. I am amazed at how light you can build them and wish I could get them as light. I know I'm adding some extra weight with my...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I've got a question for all those who have finished their jug. What was your final weight? My jug weighed in at 11lb. 14 oz. That's with the rcskylite struts, a Century Jet tail wheel retract,...

Thanks Corsair Jock. I start typing and invariably leave out some important info (the flats)! You summed it up nicely.

I attached a pic showing the tail wheel retract, as well.

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Manolo,

I removed the gear wells using a Dremel tool and various bits, whichever works best to get the job done. For each inner gear door I just drew the shape on the bottom of the wing and cut...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Manolo,

Here are some pics of my setup using the rcskylite struts. I just cut off the 5mm wire strut supplied with the stock retract units, filed a flat on the existing wire, and attached the...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Corsair Jock,

These struts will fit the wheels provided with the kit by using wide spacers (provided with the struts). To keep from using the wide spacers, I Dremeled off a small amount of...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Bruce,

Check out the P47 struts from rcskylite.com. They fit a 5mm wire, are really inexpensive, and have nice workmanship. They worked nicely in my jug. They are about 8mm short, but a...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Excellent job, Kurrikan. I knew you would get it done. Looks like it works nicely! I know I had to fiddle with mine to get it just right, but once you get it set up so the doors will fully close,...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Kurrikan,

Here are tail wheel pics from my Corsair build. Although your tail wheel is slightly different from mine, I believe you can work out the details. The Corsair is a .60 size so the...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Kurrikan,

How did you finally get those tail wheel doors to work? On a previous Corsair build, I used threaded rods and ball links attached to the tailwheel to open and close the doors. It...
