RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

You probably can. Just be careful when applying power fast since it will try to roll even more.
Try with a few without the cowl installed. Once you find the angle you are looking for than go ahead...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I am no Monokote expert but I did mine in one piece per side and it came out rather well.
Just take your time and let the iron do the stretching for you.
No issue either so far under the summer...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I kinda did the opposite but your approach is safer and will yield the same results.
I lay the lines out first with the sharpie, and then I go over with the pencil to score the balsa.
After that...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Hi Tom
I used the same technic to finish my p-47 razorback.
When you cross the blue insignia or any other black or darker place I substituted the black marker with a silver one.
Sharpie brand...

Excellent job Andy!
How are your stock retract holding up?
Mine took a beating already on my bumpy field.
Looking to switch to Robart.

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I had same problem right out of the box.
I purchased a steering wheel harm I think either from Dubro or great planes. The shaft collar was little bigger than the stock one but I cranked it down...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Precisely .....I understand the geometry of which 85 degrees mounted on a p 47 would be perpendicular to the GROUND and not the wing.
However the point I was trying to make is the the stock 90...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I am a bit confused.
How do the 85 degree fit better making the landing gear perpendicular to the ground when the stock one which is a 90 degree looks to be sitting inward and not perpendicular ?...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

For what is worth.
The stock retracts open to 90 deg and when you sit the plane on the ground it looks like they are bowed in so much that the tire doesn't sit flat but angled inward toward the...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Are the stock retracts legs compatible with rcskylite struts?
The web site calls for 5mm. Is that the diameter of the stock ones?

Thanks for the help.

With the E-flite set up do the legs wobble side to side or are really sturdy?
Thanks

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I am a bit disappointed......
I finally sat the plane on the main gear with everything on it and the stock landing gear is so flimsy that it wobble side to side when I try to start the engine. In...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I have a propane torch as well.
Trouble is the solder does not stick to the brass once it's melting.
Wonder why.
And yes I cleaned both with sand paper and used flux before soldering.

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Do those struts fit with the stock retracts or you need to buy e-flite?
Also, don' t you have space limitation for wheel clearance with stock wheels forcing you to go to a smaller and skinnier...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I am not sure how a bust would work with the scale cockpit included in the kit. Do you just put it on top of the seat?
What about legs?
Thanks

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

Hello
Where would it be the best place to find a pilot for the p-47 ?
Tower hobbies?
Can't seem to find one anywhere else.

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

I personally use it every other day in the summer with one pull start with plenty of abuse and neglect.
In the...

RE: Top Flite P-47D Thunderbolt ARF .60-.91: Building & Mods

We all have to agree that in a pinch, it is much easier to ask for a question to keep your build moving forward than try to flip trough pages to find the correct answer.
This thread is really small...
