A generous dab of goop (shoe goo, zap a dap a goo, etc) will work. Be sure to pack some vaseline inside the threads first before applying the goop.

I ordered directly from Horizon and they shipped it fine with no damages. Plenty of bubble wrap on the inside box and paper between the boxes for cushioning.

I'm now waiting on the new electric...
