I agree with you on the throttle curves keeping the rpm up on the motor where it is in its power band. I also agree with using the pinion to adjust your head speed. I also have a 3dx450B with a align...

Not only blade lenght will change the flying properties. Weight and stiffness will also change how it reacts in speed or stability.

I use the Hs65hb's on my 3dx450. It's the same frame as bill's. You can adjust the top servo mount up or down via the set screws attaching it to the mast. My rear servo comes very close to the tail...

If you get that dog, keep your helis well out of it's reach. Dogs like to chew on things that you touch, TV remotes, shoes, and your heli. If you think a crash does damage, you should see what a dog...

I use the AR6100 on my Trex450 clone and have not had any problems. The diffrence between the 6100 and the 6200 is range. In another forum their was a thread about loosing signal at 300 to 400 feet...
