pilotlight: I have seen on ebay someone has an HDX BL motor like what you are looking at, with a 2.3mm shaft along with the Hobbywing 18A esc. Would that work also?

Are you sure the tail motor isn't burnt out. As soon as I installed the gyro and the ESC, my original tail motor burnt out. I replaced it with a GWS motor and have not had any problems since. You...
