Thanks for reply GB. There are a handful of guys at my field who do really proper repairs on their planes. I'm always impressed with how handy they are with things like re-covering planes. I've tried...

I just ordered some Tesa Tape and Hinge Tape in case one of those might be especially good for fixing the tear in the covering.

I also ordered some Thick CA in case that might be best for bonding...

Thanks for the tips. I'll fetch a copy of the 46AX manual. I'm annoyed with myself for backing out the needle without counting the turns. The engine was really well tuned before. So I just gotta...

Hi JB, Thanks for the answers. Before posting here I backed out the needle by several turns but without removing it. Oops. So basically I’ve created the need for a second question. So now I’ll need...

Answering myself again, but this time to help this along with an illustration:

Here is a picture of the throttle lever and nut from the 46AX. As you can see, that's difficult to tighten properly....

Answering one of my own questions: I just realized that 46LA carb has no needle inside it for idle adjustment. It does that function via the air bleed valve.

Am I correct in that?

Luckily I...

Question carbs stuck shut after years

Hi,
I'm looking at my glow engines after a few years of not flying. In a word .... ARG. I thought the only issue would be to unstuck the crank shaft, but the carbs were stuck too and those are...

RE: brass prop nut on Rimfire .80 50-55-500

Thanks for the info and the word of caution. I suppose that if the firewall was one that is suitable also for glow engines, then instead the electric motor shaft could bend seizing the motor.

So...

brass prop nut on Rimfire .80 50-55-500

Hi,
The Rimfire .80 50-55-500 comes with a prop adapter with the right threads for the Great Planes brass prop nut that I have. My digital scale puts the prop nut at 65 grams (2.3 oz). I'll need...

RE: bigger EP setups and battery heat

Thanks for replies and info. I've never before considered a bigger EP setup like this, so in general I've not thought of taking a closer look at bigger EP setups at the field and how they deal with...

RE: Hangar-9 Sopwith Camel Build Thread

Hi,
I've been using MotoCalc to estimate setups taking into account my requirement of using a 5S LiPo. I'm not sure yet if I'll go for the EP setup, but thought I would post the MotoCalc result....

bigger EP setups and battery heat

Hi,
I've only used park flyer EP setups (for larger planes I've always used glow engines). Now I'm considering an EP setup for a "60 size" plane. I've been using MotoCalc to estimate different...

RE: Number of Cells and Prop Range

I took a broader look at the motor options in MotoCalc and turns out that with my requirements like 5S LiPo, one of my earlier choices, the Rimfire 55 would give a wider performance envelope.

RE: Number of Cells and Prop Range

Hi,
I ran many numbers both manually and through the wizard and MotoCalc seems to think that 14x10 is an effective and efficient prop for a plane with the general lift and drag characteristics...

RE: Number of Cells and Prop Range

Thanks. Good idea. I think I'll try MotoCalc and see what that says.

Cheers

RE: Number of Cells and Prop Range

Thanks again for your help. I'm not at all sure yet if I'll get the EP setup because I normally like to use glow engines, but I decided that I might get an E-Flite Power 60 instead. Battery range for...

RE: Number of Cells and Prop Range

Ok so that's sort of like the difference between 2 stroke and 4 stroke then? Actually I recall there being a debate about this. Some people thought that it's not at all an accurate analogy and others...

RE: Number of Cells and Prop Range

Ok thanks. EP is confusing. I was just looking at the Rimfire 60 which by the figures looks like it's significantly more powerful than Rimfire 55, but the prop range for it is 12x6 - 13x4E [&:]

RE: Number of Cells and Prop Range

Thanks for help. With increasing diameter, do you mean also slightly lower pitch? I would guess that leaning toward slightly lower pitch would be called for when increasing diameter because of lower...

Number of Cells and Prop Range

Hi,
Up to now, the EP setups that I've used have been based on very exact specs for the plane. I haven't chosen from options like number of cells, etc.

I'm considering using this motor...

RE: Hangar-9 Sopwith Camel Build Thread

RE: Hangar-9 Sopwith Camel Build Thread

Thanks for the info. I've noticed many 60 motor setups here using 6S. Any particular reason for choosing 6S? I was thinking of going for the minimum 5S.

As for the battery placement, if I go...

I've never used EP in anything bigger than park flyer. Now I'm considering using EP for this plane (even though I already bought a nitro engine for this) because of the clear preference for...
