Well, it is normal for it to stop beeping when you unplug the motor. Since the ESC itself does not have a loudspeaker/beeping device.
It uses the motor as a loudspeaker. Hence the silence.

And I say again: IF the steering servo does what it's supposed to do when you twist the wheel on the transmitter, and the ESC still keeps beeping & flashing, the RECEIVER is toast.

Now, does it?

The beeping means that the ESC is not getting any useful info from the receiver.
So if the steering servo does what it's supposed to do when you twist the wheel on the transmitter, and the ESC...
