RE: Pica Duellist 2/40 build

Biggest reason is that I already have the 46FXs.

RE: Downwind turn Myth

Do you actually fly circuits like your example on a regular basis? Just about all the flying at my field consists of 180deg turns with the final turn before landing having a...

Ifind this statement to be very interesting and have a couple of questions. Is the turn from base leg to final leg a 90deg turn? Are you increasing power to increase airspeed to keep...

RE: Downwind turn Myth

Sorry. Turns one and two would be similar. in shape. Turns three and four would be elongated (streched) in the direction of the wind.

RE: Downwind turn Myth

No. All turn would look alike but the control movements would be different for each turn.

RE: Downwind turn Myth

You are correct. One problem with the thread was that there was never a definition of what a downwind turn was. A 90deg turn or a 180 deg turn or where in the circuit it was.

RE: Downwind turn Myth

A plane will lose airspeed in a turn because of the increased drag from the deflected control surfaces. It will lose more in a downwind turn than an upwind turn because of the increased deflection of...

RE: Downwind turn Myth

I am on the ground, the runway is on the ground, the flying area is the space above an area of the ground. When we fly our planes at most flying sites it's all in relation to the ground. One of the...

RE: Downwind turn Myth

Consider a typical circuit at the field. I'm fying parrallel to the runway into a headwind of 15mph and make a 180 turn to return the other way and then will make another 180 to get back on the...

RE: Downwind turn Myth

The standard response to posts you don't like is to ignore them. Instead you make arrogant statements. Why don't you just be a man instead of a child.

You really did choose an apt screen name. It will take someone other than you to make me not post what I want.

RE: Downwind turn Myth

A crashing plane is not condsidered normal flight either but does have something to do with the discussion.

RE: Downwind turn Myth

You say that crabbing isn't required to maintain a heading but it is useful for landing. When does landing not pertain to a heading?

RE: Downwind turn Myth

May I point out that this thread started with a reference to a loop and yet most of the subsequent discussion is about horizontal turns.  I point this out because a couple of considerations will...

Yes, the runway is on the ground and given time it's guaranteed the airplane will also be on the ground - if the pilot understands these issues the airplane might even be on the ground...

RE: Downwind turn Myth

There are plenty of videos of full scale planes trying to land in a strong crosswind that look nothing like a landing with no wind. You have never experienced flying with a crosswind to the runway?

RE: Downwind turn Myth

So if a plane is flying up on a vertical line its airspeed will be the same if it turns into the wind or with the wind?

RE: Downwind turn Myth

I have two questions.

Is it possible to be flying upwind, make a 180deg turn and lose airspeed?

Will the same turn (with the same track over the ground) while flying downwind result in a gain...

RE: If rules change, will you honor new rules?

Yes I'll surrender because like most of the flyers I've seen I don't have the planes or desire to violate any of the supposed regulations.

On a side note, Iam amazed at the number of people that...
