The gyro's function is to control the counter torque reaction of the tail, it sends signals to a servo which changes the pitch of the tail rotor blades...

Hi Navy_1,

I'm not familiar with the stock 2.4 radio but your problem might be the trim center on your rudder. Move the rudder trim to center position and then try power up again. ;)

8 mins flight time is around what you should get from the stock battery, infact I get a bit more than 8 mins but I dont fly longer to avoid damaging the battery. This all depends on your pitch curve...
