Jim,

I'm just over analyzing things a bit from a technical standpoint. At the end of the day we build with what makes us happy and like you say, you can always change your engine - particularly...

I think Tony's setup reveals the possibilities. A few folks fly wood DB's (highly modified) in SPA with 55's delivering ~1300W. The 61 SF delivers closer to 1400 so the power difference is not huge -...

Jim,

it might be worth while checking out the weight of the airframe components parts. If the airframe is under 4 lbs, I think you stand a chance of bringing the model in at 7.5 lbs wet. Make that...

The 75 is about 1.5 oz heavier than a 61 SF at 19 oz. Power of the 75 at ~2.3 bhp almost at par with the NovaRossi Speed/13 (a RE engine) albeit at higher fuel consumption (probably). On the other...

Jim,

got your message just haven't had a chance to reply yet. I agree with your assessments on engine choice. I think a 55AX would do well provided your model is light - ideally no more than 7.5...

Keith,

I'd be interested in seeing some CU shots of your E-Flite retract mounting. I'm considering them in a trike installation but also am leary with all the bad press on the nose gear...

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Greg,

Simply put, it's a circuit breaker. The positive red lead of the speed control is cut and jumpered with the arming switch. No plug, no current to the speed control (sort of like a fuel...

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Ralph,

I tend to agree with Doug. Either get the OS pump working or just run the engine without a pump and a different carb. The pumped carb won't work without the pump. It might work with a...

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Interesting cowl mods there Kevin!

You have to tell me where to pick up motor mounting hardware like that. I'm always cooking up something in the lab to attach motors. Actually, water plumbers...

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Jason, looks like they will work nicely with minor modifications. 5 mm struts? What wheels and axles will you be using?

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Kevin,

I'll be interested in seeing how you go about battery access. I thought that making a simple rectangular cut out of the canopy front end would be doable. It would require some "framing"...

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Nothing wrong with decals, but this trim scheme is not suited to "modern" graphics.

The font choice and design is simply wrong - too square for a rooound and looong model... [8D]

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Based on what appears to be the maximum 2.5" dimension sideways and height wise, it should. At 58 mm it is ~2.28" wide and 7" long so it should fit nicely.

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Jason,

7-1/4 oz - nice! Are the trunnions fit for 5 mm struts? Maybe 4 mm on the nose? Will you also have the metric axles?

I sent you a PM.

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Jason,

I take it those are the E-Flite 60-120 gear? If so, do you have that file as a PDF rather than a JPG? If you, I'd be grateful if you could post that file.

I'll be glad to help with...

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Greg,

No doubt. GP made it longer to fit the engines and provide a longer nose area for retract and tank. I just don't get why they'd plan for a 9 oz tank!@?

How do you like the TN2 vs the...

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Ralph,

Looks doable - thanks for the pics. The Hayes ought to be a little flatter but I don't know if wider. That might be the limiting factor, the width. I posted dimensions a few posts back,...

Gotta get them Multicons back in the Tipo I finished recently... First, the tank, plumbing and engine though.

In the DB I'm building the tray will go all the way in the rear. As I'm using a pumped engine I expect to position the tank half across...

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Good point Matt. In fact, wouldn't one be able to position all three servos in the rear slot with perhaps a little offset if needed to clear pushrods?

However, one thing to keep in mind is the...

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF

Wow! That tray is way in the front isn't it? Is there space to move it back in the aft portion of the wing saddle area? I guess by prying off some epoxy and lite-ply formers... not good.

A 16 oz...
