RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I have a 125 in mine and love it. I did break a elevator hinge and replaced all (elevator and aileron) with robart hinges and have had no problems. I really don't think you can go wrong with any...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I used the stock gear but did beef up the retract rails and I have close to 60 flights now. Not all my landings have been perfect and I bent the gear wire once. Took the retract out to straighten...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Flight 21. I changed the CA hinges on my P51 elevator to robarts. To do that I needed to remove the joiner so that I could get the elevator halves apart to install the robarts. I put some acetone in...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I run an apc 15x8 on my Saito 125 and it turns 8900 rpm. The 16x6 turns 9200. 16x6 is great for unlimited vertical and the 15x8 hit 119 mpg on the gun 2 weeks ago but the vertical performance isn't...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

The right fix was to go the thrust angle route, but with the cowl and spinner mated perfectly with about 1/8 inch gap I wasn't going that way. 1 flight while adjusting the % for the mix solved my...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I hated to do it but I mixed in some down elevator with the throttle. Mine only climbed under 3/4 and above throttle though.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Watch trying to drill to close to the edge of the flight surface, the jig takes a little room and can't drill right at the edge. Measure the hinge, then place your drill bit into the jig and have it...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

TWC No fear and no need for a new wing set. You could cut the hinges and reinstall new ones beside the old ones. I don't like putting them in the same spot as the wood has been soaked in CA already....

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Hey Rotor nice plane. It looks like the bolt for the spinner is not recessed into the spinner. You had to buy a new bolt to fit the saito, right. I put my bolt into my cordless drill and then took my...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Rotor I run mine with 10% . Did you run your throttle linkage as per the manual. I did and it was the worst thing I could of done. It put force on the throttle barrel screw and wore it out in 3...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Harvey, I've put some dings in mine and what has worked for me is to heat my iron on full heat and then go over the ding for  2 or 3 seconds. The covering will bubble up as the air under the covering...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

For those running a Saito 125, I run a 16x6 but was wondering what others are running. Lots of grunt with the 16x6 but wondering if a 16x8 or 15x8 would be better. Thanks

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

I had one side a little lower too. I used two thin washers (one for each screw) under the one side of the retract, that the screw went thru to shim it a little more up. Make sure you don't shim too...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Jason , I am using stock retracts and one is fairly tight while the other one has a little play in it. I have not had a problem with them. I did beef up the mounts and also used slightly longer...

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

Robart hinges question. I am about to hinge my elevator and wondering if I should use the 1/8 hinge or the 3/16 hinge. Robarts says the 1/8 work on 90 to 1.20 planes but they look small to me....

Hate to say it but I also fly with a Saito 125. Break in was done on the ground. Time to look for something other then CA hinge for the elevator.

RE: Top Flite '.60 size' P-51D Mustang ARF: Building & Modifications

David I used the bend and the faslink for elevator. After marking and bending I was able to slide the rod from servo to the back. It was just long enough for me to slide it out the access hole (don't...
