The problem was very simply. The pin jumper which is removed to enter programming mode was in fact missing the tiny metal contacts....

Yes the Naptha / Shellite is petroleum based it is actually a form of petroleum vapour hence why it evapourates very quickly.

I have been using Shellite for cleaning my model...
