From the symptoms that you described, no it has nothing to do with the ignition. It is a tuning problem.

plug gap is around .020" inches or 0.5mm. You indicated your engine would just die, when advancing the throttle. That is normally an indication of a lean low needle.

Jody,

Opto kill power input from RX, was what I was missing in the sequence. For some reason I thought the Opto kill had to be powered by the battery directly through the on/off switch.

Per the 42% instructions, the sequence is battery, switch, Opto kill. From the Opto kill it goes to ignition and RX. Now, how are you powering the RX with that same battery and single switch? Does...
