RE: Great Planes Super Stearman

Has anyone had any experience with using a Saito (or equivalent) 1.80 in the Super Stearman? Is that too much engine?

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

You can still special order the plans from Top Flite. There are copies of the instruction manual available too.

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

Thank you. I am very happy how it turned out. It is the same articulated gear that I have in the video. Once I get off my rear end I will add a video of it operating on the plane itself.

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

Thanks guys. It only took me 3 years.
I'm pretty happy with the results. It weighs in at 8 lbs 4 0z.

Very sad news about Howard Pardue. He was a fixture at Reno ever since I could remember.

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

Thanks again for getting me motivated again. Mine would still be gathering dust in a corner half built if you hadn't started this forum.
I finally finished mine today.
Here is the final product.

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

A covering hint passed on to me by another builder. After you finish your final fine sanding, spray the area you are going to cover with hair spray. This help the covering adhere better to the bare...

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

Looking great. You have been a great motivation for me to get mine finished.
I hope to post pics of the final product in the next week or so.
Thanks

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

This is a follow-up to a reply I posted earlier. There is a great article in this months AMA Model Aviation magazine on washout. The redbox Bearcat was known for having a tendency for tip stalls....

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

I made a plywood control horn mount and put it flush with the bottom surface of the flap. It doesn't hide the horn like you are attempting though. It made covering a lot easier. I just covered the...

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

I got my spare cowl today. Omni Models is great. I got it cut and sanded smooth. Will epoxy it together tomorrow. Reinforce with glass tape on the inside to be sure it is solid. Have you thought of...

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

I know this is late in the game, but did you look at split shot fishing weights? I haven't been fishing in awhile, but I'm pretty sure they come in different weights and amounts.

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

One thing I found while I was researching my build was that the TF Bearcat could have a tendency to tip stall. One way to counteract is to make the wing loading as light as possible. I lightened the...

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

I have a few ideas for the cowl. The trick is to open it up but still have structural integrity. I ordered a corsair cowl as a backup. Once I receive it I will start to work.
Here is a link to my...

RE: Top Flite F8F-2 Bearcat Red Box Build

Great looking build. I am just finishing up mine. I wish you had started about a year ago. It would have made my build easier. I am just getting to the cowl. I'd heard about taking out the 1/2"...

RE: Scale flying wing kits or plans...?

I got a set of plans from Bell-Imel on E-Bay a year or so ago for a 90" N9M. The plans and instructions are very nice, but pretty basic when it comes to detail such as installing retracts and making...

RE: 72

I also have the 72" PBY plans from Vintage RC. I plan to have a laser cut short kit done. I was originally planning to either use a couple of 2-cycle .35's or 4-cycle .52's for power, but when I...

RE: SIG Ryan STA special Plan needed!

Thanks for this great thread. I got the old Sig Ryan kit for Christmas. I'm glad to see there is interest in it still. I'm looking forward to hearing about your builds.

RE: KMP F7F Tigercat 3 piece wing

Great pics. But it doesn't really show how you are able to secure the wing. I want to do this with mine.
Thanks.

RE: KMP F-7F Tigercat

Hi all.
Have any of you made the outer wing panels removable? I have some ideas, but would love to see what other people have done.
Thanks.

RE: KMP F-7 Tigercat Build

Also looking at hinging the main gear doors. Any...
