I used medium super glue to hold the thread in the trough at the start. Glue one end in and then lay the thread up to the first bend, or the end of the weld, and then use the thin stuff to glue the...

I just use heavy twisted thread glued in the trough where the weld is supposed to be. It can be formed around corners and odd angles also quite easily. Looks great with a coat of paint on it.
