This starts to get like the guys that buy a new Harley and immediately take it and do a dyno run hoping to get numbers they see on a forum. Almost all of my NV engines get stronger the more I run...

I believe on the original the top was 1/4" and the bottom was at least 1/8" which would account for 3/8" of it. Also some, like the GLH had a foam top and bottom. So you may have cut the sides to the...

BTW, my original is still running great after all these years. I didn't get a lot of flying in last year so I did end up cleaning the carb and replacing the fuel lines to the tank.

I believe there are additional differences in the carb as well, idle, maybe bore as well. The GX carb will run nitro, but not so much with the AX carb running gas.

aspeed, the extension only works on the nitro, doesn't do squat for the gas. I've been tied up with other stuff for a while and lost my flying field across the street, so now it's a trip to the club,...

I have a few of each of the AX and GX versions. Andy is correct, never over prime or run them too rich, I did bend a rod on one that way. I have never broken a crank pin and I have one GX that has...

What she said.
With the cox engines, the tightest fit doesn't mean the best running motor. I've also found that re-setting the rod always made more of a difference than cylinder\piston fit.

Use the long (or short) one from the gas, it has a slightly different taper to the needle and gives you a finer adjustment.

hsukaria,
You should have 1 gasket (thin gasket material) and 1 shim (metal). That being said I have run them with all combinations, depends on the motor. But can't go wrong starting with a shim and...

Once they break in they idle smooth. I had to adjust the servo throw to get them to shut off from the radio. I tend to adjust the idle a little rich to get a good transition, then adjust the idle...

Ah ha! We are getting somewhere. Now go look at the picture again.

As most of us fill from the carb line until the fuel runs out the vent, this would indeed happen.

And this is why...

Joe,
If you have dropped to only 8k you have most likely bent a rod or blown a head gasket. Check some of the earlier posts in this thread.

On the bubbles in the line, could be the dot, but you...

Well pardon me professor. I guess I'm the only person who has ever had a muffler on an inverted motor get filled with fuel before I even started it. Must have been some cosmic anomaly. Most likely it...

This works fine with an upright motor. Again, with an inverted 2 stoke things get different. The reason I use the tank vent tube bent to the top of the tank is so it is not submerged in fuel on an...

The centerline of the tank should be inline with the high speed needle with the wings level, or even a little lower than the needle. That setup looks high, especially for an inverted engine. As a...

I still mix up 30% castor fuel for my 60's era motors. The metallurgy requires it. Break ins were painfully slow and slobbering rich at first. The term "4 cycle" is common. I recently replaced the...

If you are having the issues with both engines, I would suspect the common element, the fuel, before looking at gaskets or plugs. I mix mine no more than 2 quarts at a time just for that reason....

I'm in. Not sure of the project name yet but will be an OS 15 as it's been almost 20 years since I built that size. I already scored one from my LHS for $15.

Windows look great. Never thought of just printing them. The gradient makes all the diference in the world. Nice touch on the outline too, gives it a 3d look.

Oct 1 works for me. I'm slammed with projects already. I'm thinking I can get some extra time if I "Accidently" set the honey-do list on fire like last year. Year before too, come to think of it....

I would go for fresh gas over the plug. The plugs seem to be good/bad and not much in between. Might have some crud in the needle area too if it set all winter with some fuel in it.
