Go with the plans and if you do not think the throws are adequate fly up high at a large field where you have lots of room to maneuver if need be.

I think CP just hit on something that not many have figured out. I have seen a few people build a 1/2A as a second, third or even much later plane and then give it the same control throws as a .40...
