Anyone - What is the purpose of the marking on the top of the wing (see aeroscale's inverted photo). A lot of...

RE: What is the name of this plane and who made it?

I believe that's the "RCM Trainer 40". That one could have been built from plans, although a couple of companies did make kit and arf versions. Google RCM Trainer.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

I attached a camera to the wing tip and flew this morning. The camera cut out shortly after takeoff but I posted what I got. I'll try again some other time. I like watching the nose gear absorb the...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

Scorpion motors are great! That's what I use in my helis.

I checked the prop. It's a 16 x 8. You're right, the 18 would be mowing the field.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

I use 6S packs because that's what I have. I use them in my Trex 500 helis. I use two to get longer flight times. The extra power has come in handy a couple of times already (still a bit windy around...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

Here is a plot of the voltage and power for my setup with two 6S LiPo's and a Castle Creations Ice 100 ESC. The ESC has it's own data logger built in. Peak power on climb is over 2000 watts!

Just wait till you do your first full flap landing on a calm day with the right ammount of down elevator mixed in. I bet you will have a huge smile on your face!

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

Lil Hoss,

If you have to sit and stare at them to see that the flaps are off a bit then I think you did well. How far off are they?

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

Yeah! The manual needs to be ammended to include the step mentioned above.

Note to anyone starting a new build: Put the ailerons on first and tape them into a neutral position (aligned with the...

rgaynor,

This might be worth a shot:

It requires 6 to 12 volts. The RX packs we are using would be at the low end...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

After the initial epoxy cured I put some more epoxy in a hobby syringe and shot it into the gaps to make sure there was plenty of adhesive in there. After that cured I covered the gap with a small...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

If I were building mine again I would hinge and attach the ailerons first and tape them in the neutral position. Then I would know exactly where the flaps need to be located when they are in the full...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

I just weighed mine again with struts and interior kit and got 13.25 lb. It will go up some more when I get a 3 blade prop and pilot. Right now I'm using wood prop which is pretty light.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

Hman, you don't want the engine touching the cowl. For cooling reasons (you want plenty of airflow around the engine) and the engine vibration will shake the cowl and ruin the holes in the cowl that...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

Cool! My static thrust is 10.5 pounds full throttle but I fly at just above half throttle. I think you are good to go. Don't use any flap on your first takeoff. Experiment when you get up high. I had...

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF

rgaynor,

I have not done a static thrust test yet but I will. I can't sustain a vertical climb so I know my airborne thrust is less than 12.25 lb.

RE: Top Flite Cessna 182 ARF
