I always turn the transmitter on first "Once bound" but the DX7 instruction manual said to turn radio on first, let it blink (Indicating search) then while holding down the button on the back, turn...

At just 12"s the receiver's front end is getting hit with so much RF, it is saturating and bouncing around way down in the circuitry...
(That's about the least technical explanation I can come up...
