RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

This happened to my brother. New plane with maybe a half dozen flights. Clunk fell off the end of the line in the tank. He put it back on and put on a plastic zip-tie to act as a clamp and it...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

Congratulations!!!
I know how proud I felt to see my PT-60 lift off and fly without a lot of trim issues. I really like the looks of your plane and I know you'll have a ton of fun with it.

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

I copied a comment from Bruce Tharpe's site. It's attached to one of the Flyin' King photos:

"BRUCE'S TIP: Trike gear works great, particularly on paved runways. One common mistake with any...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

Building the Venture while training on the PT doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. I started on my Uproar 60 a few months after I finished my PT-60. The Uproar has been finished for almost a year...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

Maybe the large "X" will work. Take a look at this drawing.

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

I would think all black would be fine. I did my PT-60 in "Deep Blue" Ultracoat (looks black from a few hundred feet) on the bottom and "Bright Yellow" on top. I wrapped the yellow below the leading...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

I like it. It will definitely look different than the other trainers at the field. One of the great things about building your plane is that you get to create your own look.

My Astro Hog is...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

I think it looks great. My wing covering ability is not the greatest but it was tight and didn't have a ton of wrinkles. I didn't get the really smooth finish on the wing tips like I've seen on...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

It is ok to cover the firewall and cheeks. I covered the firewalls of my Uproar and Big Stik. They were very simple because the firewall is the front of the fuselage.

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

Every plane I've had is covered there.

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

I've put a lot of dings in my planes in the house. I covered part of my Uproar 60 in purple pearl Ultracoat (costs about $5 per roll more than standard colors) and literally had none left over. ...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

Can't see a lot of detail in the photos, but unless the rudder looks horrible, I'd just keep going. It's hard to get a smooth tight covering job. Do the best you can and hopefully each part gets a...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

If you can feel the crack it will show under the covering. The amount of filler that will actually stay on the plane after sanding it smooth is very small. I had plenty of flaws visible under the...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

Theo, your build is looking really good.

When I glued up the fuselage sides on my PT-60 I got a lot of CA on the back side. I thought it looked like a preschool kid fingerpaintEd on it with...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

On the PT's the center rib is a front and back section and it goes in after the wings are joined; but before they are sheeted. Seemed a little strange when I built mine but it works well and the...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

I covered mine before installation. When RCKen gets to the covering portion of his LT-40 build he is going to show his method for covering them after installation. It appears that either way is...

RE: G.P. PT 40 MK 2 TRAINER BUILD

I think I'm in the minority with my opinion, but you asked. I prefer bolt on wings if the plane is designed to have a choice. Most trainer crashes I have personally seen where the wings were...
