RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

John, I finished the epoxy holder. I painted it and had my wife do the labeling after my ugly attempt on the "5's". Here are a couple photos. Thanks again for the photo details.

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

You bring up a good point and I guess a statement Ihad implied without thinking about it and will make explicit here.I have no frame of reference as to how much epoxy I need to mix up to do a...

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

Light weight spackle, thanks. I meant to get that too but with so many things to put on the list I failed to put it on there. On the list now. Since we are talking about the balsa level of the...

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

Ok guys, I made it to the hobby shop and a few other places today. I picked up a small pack of .75 oz fiberglass cloth, Z-Poxy, light and dark color primer, a couple test cans of paint one of which...

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

I followed the link and was going to order the scale you referenced. Then Isaw it's maximum capacity was 0.22 lbs which seems almost unusable for any other task or for larger batches I would...

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

Another vote for West Systems. I don't want to commit to particular products just yet but so far I am leaning towards West Systems epoxy resin and microballons for filler because I think the process...

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

I was tentatively planning on using Solartex for the rudder and elevator as an easy scale mod. That is another product I don't have experience with but it sounds like it is to be treated as iron on...

Noted. I suspect the epoxy optionsat the LHS doesn't see much movement so it could very well be old. Unfortunately that video says it was removed by the owner.

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

Yes, Ihave seen denatured alcohol mentioned a lot and thanks for the note on isopropyl. Isopropyl is what I have in the shop right now and I could have ended up using that...denatured is on the...

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

Thanks for the tips Kirby. I too would have been a "screw it, good enough" kind of guy LOL. I've seen mostly references to automotive paint used to paint the plane. Is that what you used or something...

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

I plan on using 3/4 oz glass so this is applicable. What is "layup of fuselage"? I am glassing purely as a finishing process rather than iron on covering so in my application it is not intended to...

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

@speedracerntrixie: Great looking airplane! I love the shine and smoothness of the appearance. Using the blue foam as a sanding block sounds like a really good idea, I've added it to my notes.

RE: Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

Ah, yes, I've seen that T-Bar technique on a youtube video. I'll have to research your filler technique too. I did fail to mention that I will be testing the process/practicing on scrap balsa first...

Fiberglassing questions: Why Bondo Specifically and Regarding Seams and now, more

I have no experience fiberglassing, well, anything. My next project is going to be the TFF4U Corsair. I never considered fiberglassing until Isaw photos of some glassed planes and was impressed with...
