As of 10/21/11, the big internet/mail order shop in Sacramento is showing the Savage XS in stock (with free shipping).

ESC ISSUES:
T9dragon is right, there isn't anything to be afraid of with a new XS.  On a forum like this, you do hear about all the failures because this is where the enthusiasts go to see if anyone...

You are absolutel right that detuning the ESC would help... but that would take the fun out ot it! :)
