RE: Well bugger, I busted a backplate.

Clean it very well and carefully.
All the oil needs to be removed.
Soap and water.
Maybe compressed air.
Make sure all is dry.
Mix the JB Weld.
Heat the backplate a tad with a heat gun /...

RE: crank

Yep, both. One pressure tapped muffler and a couple of plain ones. An adjustable air bleed carb and several plain ones. You might PM me for a list of parts.

RE: crank

I have a used one. $5 for the crank and $5 to send it to Sweden. (might have a new crank, but it would have to come out of a case)

I also have quite a few new bits and pieces.

(I could...

RE: Best Prop?

Yep, I also see conflict. And what I posted above is for the VA MKII and is not all applicable to Cox engines.

Going back to Tampa's original . . . he did not say what flying, or what Cox...

RE: Best Prop?

I searched for the advice Dave refers to and came up short. Here is what I could find:

"Top performance depends on using the proper propeller. When choosing the prop remember that these...

RE: STUPIDLY THICK or STUPIDLY STUPID..???

CP that video looks like great fun, but speaking from the South Plains of Texas . . . it looks to me as tho you need to make friends with a lumberjack and clean off the flying field.

RE: STUPIDLY THIN / STUPIDLY FAST...?

Pigg, I have had that problem with the fiberglass/carbon fiber 1/2A props and helped it by punching out a sandpaper disk from good cloth backed paper and gluing it to the prop.

RE: STUPIDLY THIN / STUPIDLY FAST...?

Hey Pigg, good morning,

Your post on Bob Carver reminded me of his buying Combat planes long before it was the norm (as it is now). Is Jim the son you refer to? If so, not only were they very...

RE: 1/2a control line combat plans

AMA still has plans for my HalfLite design from an article in 1988. The photo you get from this link is for a long nose / long boom version and is...

RE: The Great Glow Plug Run Off!

Hello all. (When reading my posts please remember that I sell Nelson plugs, believe them to be a great value and pretty much the long time benchmark for durable, high performance glow plugs.)

RE: Bent rod

And if you had not been able to get the new rod I'll bet there was a chance you could have straightened it. The same softness that allowed it to bend might allow it to be straightened.

RE: Propellers

I'm with Bernie. When I was flying 1/2A Combat (seriously over-competitive, going to the Nats and many contests each year) I ran the black Cox 5X3 (cut to 4.5 X 3) more than any other prop.

RE: How young is too young to learn C/L

7 is plenty old enough to learn and enjoy C/L.

(Luckily, 70 isn't too old either)

I would use a machine that will survive many crashes and keep on truckin'.

Fly off grass (tall turf...

RE: Norvel .061 smallest and largest prop sizes?

Brian, your post and concern for your engine got me to reflecting on AMEs and running them in 1/2A CL Combat in the late 90's. So I dug around in my cabinet and found some notes on setting up the...

RE: Wild Deuce

Funny, but this is not the type of design I visualized when thinking of a Wild Deuce.

Now that I see it, I think it is a natural for a Tri-Motor (engine) set-up.

RE: VA 049 MK1

Dave has it right. I used red Loctite to hold the wrist pin carrier in place after setting the timing. It usually took one or two of the shims. The more shims the lower the timing. More shims =...

RE: VA 049 MK1

Back in the early 90s' I bought some dozens of the MKIs from Dan Rutherford, set them up for 1/2A CL Combat and resold them.

Piston sizes were 1 thru 6 with 6 being the largest.

Compared...

RE: Repair TD 09 carb body

I would try JB Weld or some other metal filled epoxy vice the CA. Nitro will soften / eat CA.

And, I might figure 8 the Kevlar around the venturi base and the larger portion below to keep the...
