RE: my return to rc air

I was in your shoes a little over a year ago.  I started flying again after close to 10 years off.  I started with an Ugly Stick type plane.  Don't worry it doesn't take long to get your "thumbs"...

RE: another conversion thread. just interested

I agree with all of the above. One thing I would add is try and find an older Ryobi 31cc engine. They are just about the easiest to convert(I have 5). Once you strip off the stuff you don't need,...

RE: Need new Plane for my OS 120AX

A Dynaflite Super Decathlon would be good.  That engine is in the range.  But, I would go with a DLE 30 first.  The gas savings will pay for itself in short order....  Plus, no mess to clean up.

RE: Batteries?

If you're willing to buy the supporting equipment, LiFe packs are the way to go for flight packs.  Nicd's are old technology.  Nimh's are good if you're not doing crazy big stuff with high drain...

RE: hinge point or CA hinges

The only planes you ever want to use CA hinges on are the one you want to crash. I almost lost a model years ago because of these stupid hinges. I have never used them since. Especially on giant...

RE: Forget the DOGS. It's Bash AMA time.

So what, would you rather go back to the early '90's and the SFA?  Talk about a black hole that sucked up money.  I don't think anybody wants to go back there....

RE: WARNING AVOID NITRO PLANES!

I've only bought from Nitroplanes once, and it was a good experience. I bought some servos right before Christmas, and the order was processed fast, and delivery was fast, so I have no complaints.

RE: fuel soaked wood.

I'll second that. K2R spot remover and patience. The stuff is incredible. It's getting harder to find, but look for a local Ace Hardware store. There are a couple of places online that sell it, but...

RE: bad engines

You absolutely hit this one on the head. In all my years of flying, I've seen all kinds of folks have issues tuning engines. Usually it's the nut turning the needle valve, not the engine itself. As I...

RE: bad engines

+1!!

I've run and own most brands of motors. Over the years, I've flown many types. They all have been good to me. My Fox & K&Bengines are some of my favorites. I also have O.S., Super Tigre,...

RE: First Gasser - Battery Questions (Ignition/Receiver/Servo)

I'm sure you're going to get a variety of opinions on what is "best".  Here is the setup I'm putting in my Dynaflite Super Decathlon:
I am using an RCexl igniton on my Ryobi 31cc, and powering it...

RE: to sub c or AA batterys

On a large scale plane, I would go sub-C or even C.  The AA have much higher internal resistance to ge the capacity up.  If your flying a plane with high drain servos, the pack can fade quickly. ...

RE: 1900 nicd charging

For a Nicd, you should be able to put it on 4 amps.  That should charge the battery in about 30 minutes.

RE: Sig Mid-Star 40 build question*

I've got a Mid-Star that I have been flying for close to 15 years.  I built it to plans, and it is a wonderful flyer.  It built lite, and flies beautifully.  Mine is a trike, because I built it for...

RE: Taking Turnigy G46 apart.. HOW?

Not sure about getting it apart, but never, ever, ever, use WD40 on electrical parts. Find a local supply house like Grainger, and buy yourself a can of CRC QD contact cleaner. Awesome stuff,...

RE: Warbird servo recommendation please

Another option is Solar servos from Nitroplanes.com.  Their D227 is rated at 152 oz torque(187 @ 6.0V), and it's metal gear.  Not the fastest servo in the world, but at $10 each... and you're not...

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine

Don, I wanted to thank you for getting me my set of plans so quickly.

I had the pleasure of seeing you "wring out" your Flying Machine in person at the last two Byron Originals fly-ins on Byron's...

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine

Took about 3 days to get my plans. I just bought them a few weeks ago. I've looked them over, but haven't started them yet. Doesn't look too tough to me, but I've scratch build several planes in my...

RE: Aircraft Servos

No, it's not common.  I have planes flying now with 20 year old servos in them. I'm not talking high dollar ones either.  Hitec HS-300's,  HS-422's, JR NES-507's, etc.  All work flawlessly.  The only...

RE: Don Muddiman Flying Machine

I just ordered a set of plans from Don a couple of weeks ago.  Had them in about 3 days.  It doesn't get any better than that.  I've got a couple of kits ahead of it, but a FM is on my to-do list for...

RE: Cleaning engines

I began flying again this year after about a 10 year hiatus, and most of my engines were gummed up pretty bad.  I always ran all castor fuel, and didn't worry about after run, that was a mistake.  I...

RE:

If you like building, try a Dynaflite Super Decathlon.  Easy to build, and a nice easy flier.  It will do most basic areobatics, but it won't bite you like a 3D plane will.

RE: Bike engine for my 1/3 scale Sopwith pup

You need to check and see if the crank has thrust bearings. Given the application, I doubt it. If it doesn't it's a definite no-go.
