HELP! Irvine .40 MKII really low compression

I just got what appears to be an unrun engine, but the comp is really low. Its a ringed engine. Glow plug is tight. Its been a long time since I had a ring engine. Are they supposed to be like this?

Anyone have a link to the proper ball link pliers for cars?

I tried to use my ball link pliers that I use on my small helicopter and they bent all to hell and did not work.

With R/C planes the CG is generally at 25%

Look at where the balance point is on these planes. Near or in front of the L/E. Why is this?
